The Pioppi Diet: A 21-Day Lifestyle Plan

Aseem Malhotra - 2017
. .We're told to avoid saturated fats, we're marketed health food that is laden with sugar and we're encouraged to pound out miles at the gym. However, our chances of getting obese are increasing - raising our risk of Type-2 diabetes, cancer, dementia and heart disease. Yet in the tiny Italian village of Pioppi, life is as simple as it is long and healthy. There is no gym, no supermarket, the food is delicious and they enjoy a glass of wine every evening. Now cardiologist Dr Aseem Malhotra - a world-leading obesity expert and Britain's number one anti-sugar campaigner - and acclaimed filmmaker Donal O'Neill combine the wisdom of this remarkably long lived population with decades of nutrition and medical research to cut through long-standing dietary myths and create this easy-to-follow lifestyle plan. This isn't a diet or lifestyle which requires saying 'no' to the things you love, or exercising for hours upon end. In just three weeks, The Pioppi Diet will help you make simple, achievable and long-lasting changes to how you eat, sleep and move - changes that all of us, no matter how busy we are, can make.

Stephen Wangen - 2009
For millions of people, bread, pasta, and many other foods are bad for their health. Thousands of people have already come to their own realization that they are healthier without wheat in their diet, but it can be difficult to figure out when most doctors aren’t knowledgeable on the topic. This book provides validation for what these people have discovered, and explains how you too can determine whether or not wheat and gluten are making you sick. In Healthier Without Wheat you learn the difference between celiac disease, non-celiac gluten intolerance, and wheat allergies. You will discover how hundreds of health problems are connected to wheat and gluten reactions and why sorting this out on your own can be more difficult than you might think. You will also discover how you can be gluten intolerant even if you don’t have celiac disease, and why non-celiac gluten intolerance can be just as severe as or more severe than celiac disease. You will also learn how to determine if your infant or child reacts to wheat or gluten. Healthier Without Wheat also covers nutritional deficiencies commonly seen in gluten intolerance, and equally important, what to do if you are avoiding gluten but not getting better. Relearning to See: Improve Your Eyesight -- Naturally!

Thomas R. Quackenbush - 1996
Quackenbush (who teaches the Bates method in California and Oregon) describes how eyesight can improve naturally, at any age and regardless of heredity. This book is a wonderful tribute to the genius of Dr. Bates, who was a pioneer in discovering how vision becomes blurred and how it restores itself naturally to clarity and acuity. Now 80 years later, his findings and teachings remain light years ahead of our contemporaries. His approach to treating vision problems was truly holistic and the theme throughout this book is very much an extension of that holistic approach. Dr. Quackenbush is to be commended for his dedication in getting the truth out and keeping the torch burning in this "bible" on vision improvement.

Primal Body, Primal Mind: Beyond Paleo for Total Health and a Longer Life

Nora Gedgaudas - 2009

With step-by-step guidelines, recipes, and meal recommendations, this book offers sustainable strategies for a primally based, yet modern approach to diet and exercise to reduce stress and anxiety, lose weight, improve sleep and mood, increase energy and immunity, enhance brain function, save money on groceries, and live longer and happier.

Breast Cancer? Breast Health! The Wise Woman Way (Wise Woman Herbal Series, #4)

Susun S. Weed - 1986
Author Susun Weed proposes an anticancer lifestyle, and, if cancer does enter the picture, a six-step plan for healing (sleep is at zero, or "Do Nothing"; surgery is number six, which she terms "Break and Enter"), with various complementary healing techniques included throughout. Weed is careful to point out that supplements and herbs can hurt as much as they can help, and she lists several alternative-medicine techniques that should be avoided no matter what. The steps she does recommend--from herbal oils for breast massage to help detect lumps early to the herbs milk thistle, dandelion, and burdock for women with liver damage from tamoxifen--are explained clearly, sometimes with fascinating quotes from centuries-old books on healing. Weed will draw ire from some readers for recommending that mammograms be avoided. She says they tend to squeeze cancer cells into the bloodstream and can't detect cancer until it's metastatic, which are reasons enough to not have them, and adds that women would be better off by making her suggested anticancer lifestyle changes, paying more attention to their breasts, and performing regular self-exams. The warnings about the dangers of electromagnetic fields, exposure to estrogen, and organochlorides from plastics may frighten some, but Weed means to enlighten and empower. She dedicates the book to environmentalist and Silent Spring author Rachel Carson and poet Audre Lorde, who both died of breast cancer. Extensive herbal resources, a solid glossary, and a thorough index are included.
