Youth Ministry 3.0: A Manifesto of Where We’ve Been, Where We Are and Where We Need to Go

Mark Oestreicher - 2008
Youth ministries adapted and responded to the first two shifts, but we’re missing the boat on the third. The result? Youth ministry isn’t addressing the realities and needs of today’s youth culture. After nearly three decades in youth ministry, Mark Oestreicher has lived through a lot of those shifts himself. In recent years, he’s found himself wondering what needs to change, especially since so much of what we’re doing in youth ministry today is not working. In Youth Ministry 3.0, youth workers will explore, along with Marko and the voices of other youth workers, why we need change in youth ministry, from a ministry moving away from a dependence on programs, to one that is focused on communion and mission. They’ll get a quick history of youth ministry over the last fifty years. And they’ll help dream about what changes need to take place in order to create the next phase of youth ministry — the future that needs to be created for effective ministry to students.

"Hands up if you like Jill": Memoirs of growing up with an alcoholic mother and an abusive stepfather - How I survived

Jill Kathryn Barnes - 2020
He was a jealous man, who beat her up repeatedly; even when she was pregnant with Jill. She was only nineteen and a half when Jill was born. By the time Jill was two and a half, the marriage had ended. When Jill was around four years old, a much worse man had entered both of their lives; only this time, it was Jill who was the one being beaten. It meant nothing to her stepfather to beat her up around three times a week. He killed several beloved pets and made them eat one and also a neighbour’s pet that was found in their garden. Jill always had felt that she was loved and wanted by her mother, who had been an alcoholic since she had left school. However, when her stepfather sexually abused Jill, that was all to change. After some years of festering her rage and two breakdowns, Jill’s mother’s hate became far worse than what her stepfather had dished out. Jill became the family slave and was told daily how much her mother despised her for actually ‘allowing’ herself to be abused. Her mother also started asking the family who liked who, round the dinner table. They all cheered each other but when Jill’s name was called out, they all booed. That hurt Jill more than all of the beatings put together; though she knew her brother and sister did love her deep down and often told her so. It was just their own survival that made them join in. Jill takes you through her life, step by step, as she seeks emotional healing. She had a faith that helped but that got changed to almost unrecognisable over time. In fact, the beliefs that she once held dear, along with her very difficult upbringing, eventually drove her over the edge to a very nasty breakdown. Only when she had hit rock bottom though, did she find the solace she had long been searching for and the healing that came with it. This is not a bitter tale; in fact, it might surprise you how understanding Jill actually is. There are many good times, as well as bad in this book. You will find certain parts quite amusing, as she focuses on those happier times, as well as the bad. That makes this book quite a refreshing and even an uplifting read. Jill has a special knack of explaining things, that you can almost feel as if you are right there with her. Note: Some names have been changed to protect the privacy of individuals.

Joy at the End of The Tether: The Inscrutable Wisdom of Ecclesiastes

Douglas Wilson - 1999
Douglas Wilson's fresh, lucid treatment of this wonderful book, enables us to see that its message is not a confused riddle but an incisive indictment of "the wisdom of this world." We learn that what we can "modernity" is simply a term for men sinning in old ways with new toys and tools. There is truly nothing new "under the sun;" man's problems today are exactly what they have been since the Fall. And the answer to man's problem is just as old, yet forever new - "the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom."

When You Pray: A Practical Guide to an Orthodox Life of Prayer

L. Joseph Letendre - 2017
Praying consistently seems almost impossible. Too often and too easily, prayer becomes a burden: one more item on an already overcrowded to-do list. Failing to pray becomes a source of guilt and stress as we must once again admit our inconstancy and procrastination to our father confessor. Yet, our Lord said, “Come to me, all of you who are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. My burden is easy and my yoke is light” (Matt. 11:30). The purpose of this book, then, is not to add to the burden, but to ease it by distilling the advice and experience of those who pray.

The Peaceful Wife

April Cassidy - 2016
Driven, demanding women achieve higher positions, better salaries, and praise for their ambition. They learn to be confident, take-charge leaders who can handle anything on their own. Yet when it comes to their marriages, those same traits can backfire. After all, no one goes into marriage hoping for a promotion. What is a wife to do?April Cassidy knows this struggle firsthand. She thought she was a great Christian wife and begged God to make her passive husband into a more loving, involved, godly leader. Instead, God opened her eyes to changes that she needed to make, such as laying down her desire for control and offering genuine, unconditional respect--not just love--to her husband. The Peaceful Wife focuses on Cassidy's experience and its life-changing properties, providing a template for others to follow.Cassidy's conclusions may be as shocking to readers as they were to her, but she backs up her own tale with stories from her blog readers, and also includes recommendations for further study. She walks through baby steps on how to change, addressing questions such as:- What is respect?- How can you show respect?- How is being respectful different from being loving? In the end, The Peaceful Wife is a powerful path to God's design for women to live in full submission to Christ as Lord.

Nephilim; The Truth About Genesis 6 Giants,Fallen Angels, Ancient Evil And The Days Of Noah (The Watchers,Mystery Babylon, Trans Humanism, The Illuminati And The Occult Agenda)

Alan Fawcett - 2015
The Nephilim. Does the bible really talk about Giants? Did they really exist? The Truth and The Lie series. There are so many interesting things in the Bible that much of our modern world doesn’t even realize are there. We are going to explore many of these areas in this series. We will search for the truth and the reality of what the word of God really says, as well as addressing the misconceptions that are held about it in our modern days. The word of God contains the reality of the scientific creation that is extravagantly miraculous and still completely understandable. We will be Exploring The truth about biblical giants. The reality of fallen angels. Who is Lucifer really? Is there really good and evil? What did Jesus (Yeshua) tell us to be watching for? Can we actually know what is “truth?” If The Word Of God Is True… That Changes Everything! What if the Bible isn’t just a seemingly quaint collection of myths and self-righteous moral codes? What if it isn’t an antiquated tribal religious document like any other primitive myth? And what if it isn’t a simplistic story of primitive people trying to understand their world, a people who we judgingly suppose were without the benefit of our modern science and unable to have our modern insight? And what if this modern insight is not what it is supposed to be? We Need To Know! Where did everything come from? Who is really in charge? How old is the earth? Is there more in the bible than I’ve been told? What about the other ancient cultures?” Modern atheistic science freely admits that there is so much about the universe we don’t know, and yet can’t even conceive that there is something beyond us that is responsible for all this. Our modern science is beginning to take a peek into the unseen like never before. Quantum and dimensional physics shows us that there is indeed a supernatural realm - other dimensions of existence! The further science explores, the more it becomes apparent that the universe is more like a grand thought than a grand thing. All we see is made from what we cannot see - exactly as the Bible has maintained from the beginning. The reality of every new discovery points more and more towards a highly complex interwoven dimensional reality that is closer to a digital hologram than is comfortable to admit. We know that time is part of the space time matter realm we occupy and that it has a beginning and an end, that there is more beyond time. YHVH, Elohim God, exists outside of time. Yet science isn’t likely to offer any forthcoming admission to this possibility anytime soon.Yes, if it is true, if there is one creator God, the God of the Bible, then that changes everything! We will explore the fascinating reality that the word of God is true. It explains everything and brings our world - back - into a perspective that makes sense. It is scientifically accurate, it is realistically possible, and it is an amazing reality! You Will Learn The Truth. The truth about world history! What we have been taught isn’t all there is. The truth about ancient culture, Their legends and myths. The truth about how everything really got here The reality about the players behind world events The true existence of a supernatural world, proven by science.
