Investing in One Lesson

Mark Skousen - 2007
In Investing In One Lesson, investment guru Mark Skousen clearly and convincingly reveals the reasons for the seemingly perverse, unpredictable nature of the stock market. Drawing upon his decades of experience as an investment advisor, writer, and professor, Dr. Skousen explains in one spirited, easy-to-follow lesson why stock prices fluctuate with such apparent irrationality. Lifting back the veil of perplexity and confusion that surrounds the workings of the stock market, Dr. Skousen explains:*Why good news for the economy is often bad news for the stock market*Why stocks of old, established companies in shrinking industries tend to be a better investment than shares in rapidly growing firms in cutting-edge fields*Why stock prices can suddenly skyrocket or collapse--regardless of market fundamentals*Why initial public offerings often enrich insiders at the expense of the majority of investors*How Wall Street is like a giant casino--and how it isn'tThe perfect investment primer, Investing In One Lesson provides an introduction to everything from day trading to contrary investing to chart-based techniques. Dr. Skousen's book concludes with a comprehensive but simple investment strategy to maximize your returns without having to dedicate countless hours to researching the market. Dr. Skousen packs his book with entertaining personal and professional anecdotes illustrating his central point--that the business of investing is not the same as investing in a business. He offers investors a wide-ranging but accessible course on investing history, psychology, and strategy--all in one lesson.

The Wyckoff Methodology in Depth: How to trade financial markets logically (Trading and Investing Course: Advanced Technical Analysis Book 1)

Rubén Villahermosa - 2019
The approach is simple: When large traders want to buy or sell they carry out processes that leave their mark and can be seen in the charts through price and volume. Wyckoff’s methodology is based on identifying that professional intervention to try to elucidate who is in control of the market in order to trade alongside them.     What makes it different from other approaches?   The main advantage that puts this methodology above the rest is that it is based on solid principles; it has a real underlying logic. Far from all kinds of indicators, it focuses on the study of the interaction between supply and demand; which, as we know, is the driving force behind all financial markets.     What will you learn?   ▶ How markets move. The market is formed by movements in waves that develop trends and cycles. ▶ The 3 fundamental laws. The only discretionary method that has an underlying logic behind it. The law of Supply and Demand. The law of Cause and Effect. The law of Effort and Result. ▶ The processes of accumulation and distribution. The development of structures that identify the actions of great professionals. ▶ The events and phases of the Wyckoff Methodology. The key actions of the market that will allow us to make judicious analyses. ▶ Operation. We combine context, structures and operational areas to position ourselves on the side of the large operators.     Includes texts and images totally exclusive.   I hope you enjoy it and it brings you value.

What people are saying... I was a bit skeptical prior to ordering this as it is only 72 pages in length. However the author covered concepts and principles in very direct and easy to understand manner. I have read other authors that would have no doubt used three times the verbiage and none of the clarity possessed by Jim Brown. All in all I am very pleased with my purchase. - Darrell R Allen Buy "Forex for Dummies" or something similar for a detailed background of Forex, then buy this book. It is well written and to the point. I recently paid $40 for a system which did not do much but generate daily emails promoting many more expensive systems. Jim's free system is easy to implement and follow, and it works. Also, there is no upselling. I felt that he wants people to succeed. I also bought his other book, which includes another free system.

DIY Financial Advisor: A Simple Solution to Build and Protect Your Wealth (Wiley Finance)

Wesley R. Gray - 2015
By way of background, a family office is a company, or group of people, who manage the wealth a family has gained over generations. The term 'family office' has an element of cachet, and even mystique, because it is usually associated with the mega-wealthy. However, practically speaking, virtually any family that manages its investments—independent of the size of the investment pool—could be considered a family office. The difference is mainly semantic. DIY Financial Advisor outlines a step-by-step process through which investors can take control of their hard-earned wealth and manage their own family office. Our research indicates that what matters in investing are minimizing psychology traps and managing fees and taxes. These simple concepts apply to all families, not just the ultra-wealthy. But can—or should—we be managing our own wealth? Our natural inclination is to succumb to the challenge of portfolio management and let an 'expert' deal with the problem. For a variety of reasons we discuss in this book, we should resist the gut reaction to hire experts. We suggest that investors maintain direct control, or at least a thorough understanding, of how their hard-earned wealth is managed. Our book is meant to be an educational journey that slowly builds confidence in one's own ability to manage a portfolio. We end our book with a potential solution that could be applicable to a wide-variety of investors, from the ultra-high net worth to middle class individuals, all of whom are focused on similar goals of preserving and growing their capital over time. DIY Financial Advisor is a unique resource. This book is the only comprehensive guide to implementing simple quantitative models that can beat the experts. And it comes at the perfect time, as the investment industry is undergoing a significant shift due in part to the use of automated investment strategies that do not require a financial advisor's involvement. DIY Financial Advisor is an essential text that guides you in making your money work for you—not for someone else!

Shareholder Yield: A Better Approach to Dividend Investing

Mebane T. Faber - 2013
Investors have flocked to dividend stocks in search of yield; however, fewer companies are paying out less in dividends due to legal, tax, and structural changes in the US markets. Dividend payments are only one use of a company’s free cash flow; other uses of cash include: share repurchases, debt paydown, reinvestment in the business, and mergers and acquisitions. Consequently, investors in the 21st century must look to all of the direct and indirect ways in which companies distribute their cash to shareholders, a metric commonly referred to as “Shareholder Yield”. In this book, we analyze portfolios based on the various cash flow metrics and find that portfolios of companies with high shareholder yields outperform both broad market indices and high dividend yield portfolios by a substantial margin. With all of the uncertainty in the markets today, Shareholder Yield helps the reader answer one of the most often asked question in investing today - "Where do I find yield"?-- Amazon.com
