Out of a Far Country: A Gay Son's Journey to God, a Broken Mother's Search for Hope

Christopher Yuan - 2011
"'Christopher, you must choose! You must choose the family or choose homosexuality.' He looked at me and said, 'It's not something I can choose. I am gay. If you can't accept me, then I have no other choice but to leave.'" Christopher Yuan, the son of Chinese immigrants, discovered at an early age that he was different. He was attracted to other boys. As he grew into adulthood, his mother, Angela, hoped to control the situation. Instead, she found that her son and her life were spiraling out of control, and her own personal demons were determined to defeat her. Years of heartbreak, confusion, and prayer followed before the Yuans found a place of complete surrender, which is God's desire for all families. Their amazing story, told from the perspectives of both mother and son, offers hope for anyone affected by homosexuality. God calls all who are lost to come home to him, and he wants everyone to pursue holy sexuality. Out of a Far Country speaks to prodigals, parents of prodigals, and those wanting to minister to the gay community. "But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him." - Luke 15:20

The video launched the 'It Gets Better Project', initiating a worldwide phenomenon. This is a collection of expanded essays and new material from celebrities and everyday people who have posted videos of encouragement, as well as new contributors. We can show LGBT youth the happiness, potential, and positivity their lives will have if they can get through their teen years. "It Gets Better" reminds teenagers in the LGBT community that they are not alone--and it WILL get better.

The Married Man Sex Life Primer 2011

Athol Kay - 2011
The Married Man Sex Life Primer 2011 cherry picks the best ideas of books like "The Mystery Method," "No More Mr. Nice Guy," and the volatile online world of the Pickup Artist a.k.a. "Game" community and merges them with a solid grounding in evolutionary psychology, sociology, biology and behavior modification. The result is a simple, effective plan for men to create sexually exciting marriages for themselves and their wives. The opening covers the underlying ancient "hard-wired" biological and modern social reasons women find men attractive. Athol pulls no punches here and the sexual motivations of women are laid bare. Though rather than framing women as sexually devious and seeking to advantage themselves over men, he explains how their sexual behavior is entirely rational in nature and once understood as such, it becomes very useful information. The second part of the book takes the framework developed in the first part and offers a wealth of tools to put it to practical use. The most important tool is The Male Action Plan, which charges the husband with the task of becoming a better, sexier man and thereby leveraging his increased attractiveness for a better sex life with his wife. As Athol says, "whoever is the most attractive in the relationship is in charge." The third part of the book is a treasure trove of playful sexy and romantic moves women will find charming and engaging. It's clear that Athol could have a harem of young ladies, but here he displays an endless variety of playful instigation to continually charm just one. The final section is a catchall of serious topics on what not to do, how to choose a wife, the current state of marriage law and a crushingly simple approach to dealing with being cheated on. (Want a better man? Leave it where he can find it.)

Persistence: All Ways Butch and Femme

Ivan E. CoyoteAnne Fleming - 2011
The result is Persistence: All Ways Butch and Femme. The stories in these pages resist simple definitions. The people in these stories defy reductive stereotypes and inflexible categories. Deviations: A Gayle Rubin Reader

Gayle S. Rubin - 2011
Rubin, a pioneering theorist and activist in feminist, lesbian and gay, queer, and sexuality studies since the 1970s. Rubin first rose to prominence in 1975 with the publication of “The Traffic in Women,” an essay that had a galvanizing effect on feminist thinking and theory. In another landmark piece, “Thinking Sex,” she examined how certain sexual behaviors are constructed as moral or natural, and others as unnatural. That essay became one of queer theory’s foundational texts. Along with such canonical work, Deviations features less well-known but equally insightful writing on subjects such as lesbian history, the feminist sex wars, the politics of sadomasochism, crusades against prostitution and pornography, and the historical development of sexual knowledge. In the introduction, Rubin traces her intellectual trajectory and discusses the development and reception of some of her most influential essays. Like the book it opens, the introduction highlights the major lines of inquiry pursued for nearly forty years by a singularly important theorist of sex, gender, and culture.

The Female Orgasm Black Book: Best Sex Positions

Lee Jenkins - 2011
25% of men will get turned down by their lovers over half the time. These men have women who think sex is a chore. Nearly 50% of men have partners that will NEVER ask for sex (would you ask for something that doesn’t give you any pleasure?) 92% of women will FAKE ORGASMS just to “get it over with”. It’s obvious that what most men are doing simply isn’t working. If you have never given your partner an orgasm, and you don’t know how… Lee Jenkins has created the Female Orgasm Black Book for men and women, but it is especially valuable for caring boyfriends and husbands who want a no-nonsense, step-by-step plan for bringing explosive sexual pleasures to their partners. You do want that, don't you? The “Black Book” explains the female orgasm, A-to-Z, with sex tips, checklists and examples of “orgasm routines” you can use to bring your partner to an orgasm (or multiple orgasms). The man on top (missionary) position is a good position because during all of the thrusting and grinding, you should be putting some ideal pressure on her mons pubis. This position is also great for hitting the A-spot, especially if you lift her legs up or place a pillow underneath her ass. Theres 3 upgrades you can do on the missionary position. The first 2 enhances the penetration angle of your penis, so that you can more effectively stimulate the G-spot during sex. The third variation angles your body allowing you to stimulate her clitoris during sex.

Sex and Disability

Robert McRuer - 2011
The major texts in sexuality studies, including queer theory, rarely mention disability, and foundational texts in disability studies do not discuss sex in much detail. What if "sex" and "disability" were understood as intimately related concepts? And what if disabled people were seen as both subjects and objects of a range of erotic desires and practices? These are among the questions that this collection's contributors engage. From multiple perspectives—including literary analysis, ethnography, and autobiography—they consider how sex and disability come together and how disabled people negotiate sex and sexual identities in ableist and heteronormative culture. Queering disability studies, while also expanding the purview of queer and sexuality studies, these essays shake up notions about who and what is sexy and sexualizable, what counts as sex, and what desire is. At the same time, they challenge conceptions of disability in the dominant culture, queer studies, and disability studies.Contributors. Chris Bell, Michael Davidson, Lennard J. Davis, Michel Desjardins, Lezlie Frye, Rachael Groner, Kristen Harmon, Michelle Jarman, Alison Kafer, Riva Lehrer, Nicole Markotić, Robert McRuer, Anna Mollow, Rachel O’Connell, Russell Shuttleworth, David Serlin, Tobin Siebers, Abby L. On the Meaning of Sex

J. Budziszewski - 2011
Our own time is obsessed by it. One would think that a society obsessed by sex would understand it very well. But the truth is that obsession drives out understanding. We no longer understand even the common sense of sexuality, the things that were common knowledge in supposedly less enlightened times.Acclaimed philosopher J. Budziszewski remedies this problem. His wise, gracefully written book about the nature, meaning, and mysteries of sexuality restores lost wisdom, raising and answering such questions as:•Does sex have to mean anything at all? •What is the meaning of the sexual powers, of sexual differences, of sexual love, of sexual beauty, of sexual purity? •Is sexuality “all about sex”? •why does sexuality stir up such transcendent longings for something more than sex? On the Meaning of Sex corrects the most prevalent errors about sex, particularly the errors of the sexual revolution, which by mistaking pleasure for a good in itself has caused untold pain and suffering. In restoring the meaning and purpose of sex, the author reclaims what Dante calls “the intelligence of love.”“Looking out over the sexual landscape of our time,” Budziszewski writes, “I see a terrain of unutterable sweetness, despoiled by unmentionable pain. Yet who knows? Perhaps it is not too late to redeem the unutterable sweetness. Shall we try to find out?”

UNFAIR: Christians and the LGBT Question

John Shore - 2011
His essays are widely credited with being central to the sea change in Christian thinking that has occurred on this issue in recent years. UNFAIR offers the best of Shore's writings on homosexuality and Christians/Christianity, along with heart-wrenching but ultimately inspiring letters from gay people telling what it's like to grow up, and live today, both gay and Christian. The book's opening essay, "Taking God at His Word: The Bible and Homosexuality," is a must-read for anyone seeking clarity on the relationship between the Bible, Christianity, and LGBT people. If you read only one book on this subject, make it this one. (This is the revised and updated edition of Shore's book, "UNFAIR: Why the 'Christian' View of Gays Doesn't Work.")Dan Savage writes: "The touching, brave, and frequently heartbreaking letters in UNFAIR should be required reading for any Christian who claims that gay people can't also be Christians--and for LGBT people who feel there's some conflict between their sexual orientations or gender identities and their faith. John Shore is sharp, he's funny, and he's right. To find out why I've called him America's preeminent non-douchey Christian, buy and read this book. And I challenge anyone who believes that the Bible justifies the persecution of their gay and lesbian neighbors--particularly those on the religious right who've made lucrative careers for themselves out of bearing false witness against their gay and lesbian neighbors--to read this book's concluding essay, 'Taking God at His Word: The Bible and Homosexuality.' Read John with an open mind and he'll change yours."A few things others have said about Mr. Shore:"John Shore is awesome. The minute I started reading his stuff, I knew he was a brother from another mother."-- Rob Bell, author of "Love Wins," "Sex God," and "Velvet Elvis.""John Shore is a gadfly, calling the Christian Church everywhere to act the way it says it believes about love and justice, which of course makes him an uncomfortable presence in those churches that do not like to be forced to face reality. So were the prophets of old. So was Jesus of Nazareth."-- John Shelby Spong"John Shore is funny as hell and smart as hell."--Tony Jones, "Theoblogy"; author of "The New Christians," and "The Sacred Way.""Shore is a humorist whose work is more comedic than Donald Miller, and his appeal to Christians is more direct." -- Michael Spencer, a.k.a. The Internet Monk, and author of the bestseller "Mere Churchianity.""John Shore's unique, honest, and passionate writings draw us to dig a little deeper, to listen with the intention of truly hearing and understanding each other. He gives voice to those without a platform; he puts into words our latent questions/observations about today's topics that are begging to be addressed from the viewpoint of an informed Christian" -- Spencer Burke, founder of TheOOZE.com"John Shore is a remarkably gifted writer who knows exactly what he is doing."-- Jacquelyn Mitchard, author of "The Deep End of the Ocean" (an Oprah's Book Club selection), "Twelve Times Blessed," and "The Breakdown Lane.""John Shore is one of those rare writers who can make people laugh and think at the same time. He's one of the most talented, funny, and deeply thoughtful writers I know." -- Richard Louv, author of international bestsellers "Last Child in the Woods," and "The Nature Principle."

The dissociative states enable the child's survival and, ultimately, the adult's healing. The story is both heartbreaking and triumphant. Nickels is the groundbreaking debut of Minneapolis-area author and artist Christine Stark. "Christine Stark has crafted a language and a diction commensurate with the shredding of consciousness that is a consequence of childhood sexual abuse. She brings us a wholly original voice in a riveting novel of desperation and love. Every sentence vibrates with a terrible beauty. Every sentence brings the news."--Patricia Weaver Francisco, author of "Telling: A Memoir of Rape and Recovery" "To be taken into the mind of a child can be an enchanting adventure, but to be taken into the mind of a child who is abused, confused, and taken for granted is a lingering, livid journey. I applaud her fortitude to bring an olden--too long ignored--truth out of the darkness with blazing, innovative light."--MariJo Moore, author of "The Diamond Doorknob" "In "Nickels," Christine Stark, powerfully portrays the story of abuse and its impact on our lives. When this beautifully written and compelling story leaves, you are left wanting more. It's riveting; a book that will capture you from the beginning and carry you through the end. Strange Affinities: The Gender and Sexual Politics of Comparative Racialization

Grace Kyungwon Hong - 2011
The nationalist and identity-based concepts of race underlying the mid-twentieth-century movements for decolonization and social change are not adequate to the tasks of critiquing the racial configurations generated by neocolonialism and contesting its inequities. Contemporary regimes of power produce racialized, gendered, and sexualized violence and labor exploitation, and they render subjects redundant and disposable by creating new, nominally nonracialized categories of privilege and stigma. The editors of Strange Affinities contend that the greatest potential for developing much-needed alternative comparative methods lies in women of color feminism, and the related intellectual tradition that Roderick A. Ferguson has called queer of color critique. Exemplified by the work of Audre Lorde, Cherríe Moraga, Barbara Smith, and the Combahee River Collective, these critiques do not presume homogeneity across racial or national groups. Instead, they offer powerful relational analyses of the racialized, gendered, and sexualized valuation and devaluation of human life.ContributorsVictor BascaraLisa Marie CachoM. L.T. Morrison - 2011
It looks at mastery, slavery and exactly what power is all about in the TPE niche.Volume II "Mastery Refined: The Skills - The Issues"Mastery requires more than an understanding of power philosophies, but also knowledge of the skills to identify and address issues incumbent with TPE relationships. Learning them adds enormously to the credibility of aspiring Masters, thus enriching trust, a critical element in sustainable submission. Masters are experts, and these tools are large steps to acquiring that expertise.Volume III "Sustaining Structure - Training"Where words become things; ideas become action; and happiness is achieved in the reality of day-to-day life. No theory, philosophy, knowledge of skills, or issues is worth a pinched nipple if it cannot translate into sustainable structure. Theory and talk is over, here is how to apply a Master's values and skills into a consensual relationship with a slave, 24/7, same roof, intended to endure.A fascinating look into the BDSM culture like never before, The Devil In The Details Trilogy is a whole new perspective on the sustainability of a consensual power exchange relationship in the 21st century.Tracing his thirty-year journey through the lifestyle, the author clarifies and demystifies mastery like never before, in ways aspiring dominants can learn. It truly is a Masters mentoring series like no other. Even slaves will insist Masters read it.Extraordinarily informative, the author analyses the BDSM continuum, it's joys and pitfalls, providing the theory and tools to live a power exchange relationship, happily over time. His understanding of the slave mind, the fundamentals of relationships, and mostly his knowledge of power and its application, is a must read for both slaves and masters alike. Everyone will learn from this.Hysterically funny, wildly erotic and as entertaining a read as there is. The anecdotal mindfucks he shares are sometimes breathtaking, deeply poignant, often hilarious and always providing a unique view into the world of sustainable, healthy BDSM. But it is the explanation of what happens inside a master slave relationship and the detailed look at the issues, why they occur, what they mean and most importantly how to address them that elevates these books in the genre.Written magically, without an air of condescension, with expertise and authority, yet he makes no claims to a definitive path on anything more than his own life.A must read for anyone considering a relationship of Master-slavery. This is a resource long needed in the BDSM community.

Seeing Gertrude Stein: Five Stories

Wanda M. Corn - 2011
Seeing Gertrude Stein, the companion book to an exhibition of the same name, illuminates less familiar aspects of her life. Wanda M. Corn and Tirza True Latimer analyze the portraits for which Stein posed, the domestic settings she created with Alice B. Toklas, her partner, and the signature styles of dress the two women adopted. Corn and Latimer also explore Stein’s engagement with multiple art forms and the bonds she formed with younger artists. Focusing on portraits in a range of media, photo essays, press clippings, snapshots, clothing, furniture, and other visual artifacts, this pathbreaking study reveals Stein’s sophistication in shaping her public image and cultural legacy. Lavishly illustrated throughout, these “five stories” represent Stein’s life on a human scale while tracing her influence on a wide variety of visual artists of her own and subsequent generations.

Santillo. La Petite Mort

Dian Hanson - 2011
Santillo conceived the project eight years ago to include a thorough cross section of women: young to old, slim to thick, perfect beauties to those not considered beautiful until seen through his lens. The one constant would be that each would decide and direct how she masturbated to climax while he captured the moment. From previous projects with amateur subjects Santillo had come to believe that masturbation is a far more personal act than most sex play because it is conducted almost exclusively in private. He set out to reveal the diversity and creativity with which women approach self-stimulation, and to portray the beauty of ordinary women in the throes of orgasm—a beauty far richer than the male oriented depictions seen in pornography. Santillo says he seeks to uncover the hidden face of his subjects, and indeed, it’s the faces that best show the intensity of response in these artfully explicit photos. Dian Hanson interviewed 37 of the women, and their candid insights on overcoming inhibition, giving in to exhibitionism, and achieving orgasm in front of a stranger with a camera provide a framework for the lush, sepia-toned photos. For all who are curious about just what the woman next door—or one's own wife—gets up to in her private moments, La Petite Mort is a breath of life.

Unfinished Gestures: Devadasis, Memory, and Modernity in South India

Davesh Soneji - 2011
Following a hundred years of vociferous social reform, including a 1947 law that criminalized their lifestyles, the women in devadasis communities contend with severe social stigma and economic and cultural disenfranchisement. Adroitly combining ethnographic fieldwork with historical research, Davesh Soneji provides a comprehensive portrait of these marginalized women and unsettles received ideas about relations among them, the aesthetic roots of their performances, and the political efficacy of social reform in their communities. Poignantly narrating the history of these women, Soneji argues for the recognition of aesthetics and performance as a key form of subaltern self-presentation and self-consciousness. Ranging over courtly and private salon performances of music and dance by devadasis in the nineteenth century, the political mobilization of devadasis identity in the twentieth century, and the post-reform lives of women in these communities today, Unfinished Gestures charts the historical fissures that lie beneath cultural modernity in South India.

Love in the Time of Communism: Intimacy and Sexuality in the Gdr

Josie McLellan - 2011
Love in the Time of Communism is a fascinating history of the GDR's forgotten sexual revolution and its limits. Josie McLellan shows that under communism divorce rates soared, abortion become commonplace and the rate of births outside marriage was amongst the highest in Europe. Nudism went from ban to state-sponsored boom, and erotica became common currency in both the official economy and the black market. Public discussion of sexuality was, however, tightly controlled and there were few opportunities to challenge traditional gender roles or sexual norms. Josie McLellan's pioneering account questions some of our basic assumptions about the relationship between sexuality, politics and society and is a major contribution to our understanding of the everyday emotional lives of postwar Europeans.

Holy Harlots: Femininity, Sexuality, and Black Magic in Brazil

Kelly E. Hayes - 2011
Said to be the disembodied spirit of an unruly harlot, Pomba Gira is a controversial figure in Brazil. Devotees maintain that Pomba Gira possesses an intimate knowledge of human affairs and the mystical power to intervene in the human world. Others view this entity more ambivalently. Kelly E. Hayes provides an intimate and engaging account of the intricate relationship between Pomba Gira and one of her devotees, Nazaré da Silva. Combining Nazaré’s spiritual biography with analysis of the gender politics and violence that shapes life on the periphery of Rio de Janeiro, Hayes highlights Pomba Gira’s role in the rivalries, relationships, and struggles of everyday life in urban Brazil.A DVD of the film Slaves of the Saints is included.

Yet, challenges to the industry continue to be dismissed as uncool, antisex, and moral panic. Unmasking the lies behind the selling of porn as entertainment, this book reveals the shocking truths of an industry that trades in violence, crime, and degradation while discussing topics such as racism in gay male porn, the use of animals in porn, child pornography, and BDSM (bondage, dominance, sadism, and masochism). Fearless and controversial, this examination will challenge the current view of pornography.

Tacit Subjects: Belonging and Same-Sex Desire among Dominican Immigrant Men

Carlos Ulises Decena - 2011
Drawing on ethnographic research with Dominicans in New York City, Carlos Ulises Decena explains that while the men who shared their life stories with him may self-identify as gay, they are not the liberated figures of traditional gay migration narratives. Decena contends that in migrating to Washington Heights, a Dominican enclave in New York, these men moved from one site to another within an increasingly transnational Dominican society. Many of them migrated and survived through the resources of their families and broader communities. Explicit acknowledgment or discussion of their homosexuality might rupture these crucial social and familial bonds. Yet some of Decena’s informants were sure that their sexuality was tacitly understood by their family members or others close to them. Analyzing their recollections about migration, settlement, masculinity, sex, and return trips to the Dominican Republic, Decena describes how the men at the center of Tacit Subjects contest, reproduce, and reformulate Dominican identity in New York. Their stories reveal how differences in class, race, and education shape their relations with fellow Dominicans. They also offer a view of “gay New York” that foregrounds the struggles for respect, belonging, and survival within a particular immigrant community.

The Global Biopolitics of the IUD: How Science Constructs Contraceptive Users and Women's Bodies

Chikako Takeshita - 2011
The intrauterine device (IUD) is used by 150 million women around the world. It is the second most prevalent method of female fertility control in the global South and the third most prevalent in the global North. Over its five decades of use, the IUD has been viewed both as a means for women's reproductive autonomy and as coercive tool of state-imposed population control, as a convenient form of birth control on a par with the pill and as a threat to women's health. In this book, Chikako Takeshita investigates the development, marketing, and use of the IUD since the 1960s. She offers a biography of a multifaceted technological object through a feminist science studies lens, tracing the transformations of the scientific discourse around it over time and across different geographies.Takeshita describes how developers of the IUD adapted to different social interests in their research and how changing assumptions about race, class, and female sexuality often guided scientific inquiries. The IUD, she argues, became a "politically versatile technology," adaptable to both feminist and nonfeminist reproductive politics because of researchers' attempts to maintain the device's suitability for women in both the developing and the developed world. Takeshita traces the evolution of scientists' concerns--from contraceptive efficacy and product safety to the politics of abortion--and describes the most recent, hormone-releasing, menstruation-suppressing iteration of the IUD. Examining fifty years of IUD development and use, Takeshita finds a microcosm of the global political economy of women's bodies, health, and sexuality in the history of this contraceptive device.

Sex Panic and the Punitive State

Roger N. Lancaster - 2011
Lancaster was startled by a report that a friend, a gay male school teacher, had been arrested for a sexually based crime. The resulting hysteria threatened to ruin the life of an innocent man. In this passionate and provocative book, Lancaster blends astute analysis, robust polemic, ethnography, and personal narrative to delve into the complicated relationship between sexuality and punishment in our society. Drawing on classical social science, critical legal studies, and queer theory, he tracks the rise of a modern suburban culture of fear and develops new insights into the punitive logic that has put down deep roots in everyday American life.

Anarchism & Sexuality: Ethics, Relationships and Power

Jamie Vishwam HeckertJ. Fergus Evans - 2011
Both in style and in content, it is conceived as a book that aims to question, subvert and overflow authoritarian divisions between the personal and political; between sexual desires categorised as heterosexual or homosexual; between seemingly mutually exclusive activism and scholarship; between forms of expression such as poetry and prose; and between disciplinary categories of knowledge. Anarchism & Sexuality seeks to achieve this by suggesting connections between ethics, relationships and power, three themes that run throughout. The key objectives of the book are: to bring fresh anarchist perspectives to debates around sexuality; to make a queer and feminist intervention within the most recent wave of anarchist scholarship; and to make a queerly anarchist contribution to social justice literature, policy and practice. By mingling prose and poetry, theory and autobiography, it constitutes a gathering place to explore the interplay between sexual and social transformation. This book will be of use to those interested in anarchist movements, cultural studies, critical legal theory, gender studies, and queer and sexuality studies.

The Flower and the Scorpion: Sexuality and Ritual in Early Nahua Culture

Pete Sigal - 2011
In this innovative ethnohistory, Pete Sigal seeks to shed new light on Nahua concepts of the sexual without relying on the modern Western concept of sexuality. Along with clerical documents and other Spanish sources, he interprets the many texts produced by the Nahua. While colonial clerics worked to impose Catholic beliefs--particularly those equating sexuality and sin-on the indigenous people they encountered, the process of cultural assimilation was slower and less consistent than scholars have assumed. Sigal argues that modern researchers of sexuality have exaggerated the power of the Catholic sacrament of confession to change the ways that individuals understood themselves and their behaviors. At least until the mid-seventeenth century, when increased contact with the Spanish began to significantly change Nahua culture and society, indigenous peoples, particularly commoners, related their sexual lives and imaginations not just to concepts of sin and redemption but also to pleasure, seduction, and rituals of fertility and warfare.

I'll Show You Mine

Wrenna Robertson - 2011
The book contains 120 photographs of 60 women, with all women photographed from the same two positions. Each woman was photographed in exactly the same conditions and the photos are shown in the book in true-to-life size and color, as this is the best method to accurately display the diversity of female form. Accompanying each woman's photos is text written by the woman, detailing her challenges and/or successes as pertains to her relationship with her genitals. The photos in the book demonstrate and celebrate the wonderful diversity of the vulva; the stories illuminate the range of experiences that women have relating to the genitals in a world where mass media and pornography increasingly set the standards for sexuality and the look of all body parts, even our genitals.

Dirty Girls Come Clean

Crystal Renaud Day - 2011
The sexual addictions of pornography and masturbation are not just men’s issues. They’re women’s issues, too. Research shows that 25% of Christian women are addicted to pornography. But 70% of these women will never admit their struggle. In Dirty Girls Come Clean, Crystal Renaud aims to change these statistics and help you gain freedom from sexual addiction. Why This Book'So often, ministries and tools for overcoming these sexual addictions are more accessible to men than they are to women. Even if these ministries and tools were accessible to women, they may not be as effective in giving freedom because women turn to pornography for different reasons than men do.Women need a resource crafted specifically for them.A Trusted Source Crystal, founder of Dirty Girls Ministries and AACC certified counselor, comes clean first. Her story of addiction to pornography began when she was 10 years old and continued and intensified for eight years.During this time of sexual addiction, Crystal deceived and withdrew. She came to know shame intimately, and she thought she was alone in her struggle. After coming clean about her sexual addiction, Crystal also includes stories of other women who have come clean about theirs.A Plan for FreedomCrystal is determined to help women come clean and, by God’s grace and power, get free.Addressing both the sexual addictions themselves as well as underlying issues that cause them, Crystal provides a plan for freedom using the acronym SCARS.S—Surrender: Trusting the HealerC—Confession: Out of the DarknessA—Accountability: Restoring Our CharacterR—Responsibility: Owning My Part of the StoryS—Sharing: God Never Wastes an ExperienceIn addition to her plan for freedom from sexual addiction, Crystal provides other resources such as: personal inventories, the twelve steps of sexaholics anonymous, online accountability programs, other books, and links to recovery groups.Join Crystal and many others who have claimed freedom from sexual addiction. Now is your time to come clean and be free.“With the recent release of Crystal’s book Dirty Girls Come Clean women now have the tools they need to fight a battle that many assume only ensnares men.I can only imagine what kind of hope and encouragement this book is going to offer women who have believed for years, decades, that they were the only ones struggling and there was no hope for them.”-Book review by Marsha Fisher on porntopurity.comAn Excerpt from the First Chapter: This book is for you, the woman who feels alone in addiction to pornography. I don’t believe in coincidences. This book is in your hands because God wants to speak some truth to you, and, for whatever reason, He’s chosen to use this book to do so.The dark cloud of this addiction is far-reaching. Pornography addiction knows no path other than one of destruction, isolation, and suffocation. Pornography addiction knows no creed. Pornography addiction knows no gender. We are all sexual beings. If not, you and I would not be living on this earth. So to believe that pornography can only be a man’s problem is not only false, but it is an ignorant lie that comes from the enemy. The enemy, Satan, deceived Even in the garden of Eden by convincing her that if she ate the forbidden fruit, she would be like God. She in turn offered Adam the fruit, he took some, and as a result of their disobedience, they were expelled from the beautiful garden where they had enjoyed perfect fellowship with God. Satan’s goal was to destroy. And the enemy has been trying to destroy women ever since. From the first bite of forbidden fruit to pornography addiction, the enemy will use whatever he can to deceive us and keep us ineffective for use in the kingdom of God.May you find comfort in knowing that not only are you not alone in your struggle, but there is hope for breaking the stronghold of this addiction. And that hope comes from Jesus.      I write this book from a Christian point of view because it is my personal belief that Jesus is the reason I stand free from pornography today. But as I said, pornography addiction knows no creed. Pornography affects everyone. So it is my hope that the steps provided throughout this book will be beneficial to all women, from all walks of life. You were created for so much more than this life you’ve been living. Life is to be lived abundantly. It is time to come on out from behind the bushes.Life is waiting.

Maria Lapachet - 2011
Maria Lapachet does a good job of bringing out the sensuality and directness of what a submissive femme wants with a collection of poems that turn up the heat. Lapachet’s almost prosaic poetry is synonymous to long-treasured blue notebook that fumes with bloodied angst, creasy recollections, and steamy snippets of erotic bravado. In “My Imaginary Girlfriend” Lapachet tackles subjects that we usually dare not tread — from guiltless promiscuity to emotionless same sex trysts to the politico-cultural nuances of lesbian sexuality. We are invited to Lapachet’s unkempt bedroom of naked, wet intimacy yet we are not necessarily allowed to peer beneath the gossamer pillow.

Invisible Families: Gay Identities, Relationships, and Motherhood among Black Women

Mignon R. Moore - 2011
Moore brings to light the family life of a group that has been largely invisible—gay women of color—in a book that challenges long-standing ideas about racial identity, family formation, and motherhood. Drawing from interviews and surveys of one hundred black gay women in New York City, Invisible Families explores the ways that race and class have influenced how these women understand their sexual orientation, find partners, and form families. In particular, the study looks at the ways in which the past experiences of women who came of age in the 1960s and 1970s shape their thinking, and have structured their lives in communities that are not always accepting of their openly gay status. Overturning generalizations about lesbian families derived largely from research focused on white, middle-class feminists, Invisible Families reveals experiences within black American and Caribbean communities as it asks how people with multiple stigmatized identities imagine and construct an individual and collective sense of self.

Bible Trouble: Queer Reading at the Boundaries of Biblical Scholarship

Teresa J. Hornsby - 2011
The title phrase Bible Trouble plays on Judith Butler's "Gender Trouble," gesturing toward a primary text for contemporary queer theory. The essays consider, among others, the Lazarus story, the Ethiopian eunuch, gender trouble in Judges 4 and 5, the Song of Songs, and an unorthodox coupling of the books of Samuel and the film "Paris Is Burning." This volume troubles not only the boundaries between biblical scholarship and queer theory but also the boundaries between different frameworks currently used in the analysis of biblical literature, including sexuality, gender, race, class, history, and literature. The contributors are Ellen T. Armour, Michael Joseph Brown, Sean D. Burke, Heidi Epstein, Deryn Guest, Jione Havea, Teresa J. Hornsby, Lynn R. Huber, S. Tamar Kamionkowski, Joseph A. Marchal, Jeremy Punt, Erin Runions, Ken Stone, Gillian Townsley, Jay Twomey, and Manuel Villalobos.

Five Uneasy Pieces: Essays on Scripture and Sexuality

Michael Kirby - 2011
They come from the pen of Australian biblical scholars within the Anglican communion, who are skilled in both exegesis and hermeneutical theory. Each essay addresses the question of homosexuality in the Bible, looking at passages in the Old Testament and the New Testament which are often used as a basis for rejecting homosexuality in Christian ethics. Each essays argues, on the contrary, that there is no biblical warrant for condemning either a homosexual orientation or a faithful and committed homosexual relationship. The book, as a whole, makes it crystal clear that both sides of the debate take seriously the Bible as the inspired word of God, and both are seeking to discern the Scriptures in order to hear Gods voice speaking to us today.

The Big Book of Breasts 3-D

Dian Hanson - 2011
An impossible dream? Not so, Luddites! In this wonderful modern world of digital magic, 90 photos from the original book, plus 18 stunning new photos, have been transformed from boring old last-century 2-D into cutting edge 21st century 3-D by Jon Schnitzer and The Brain Factory, the geniuses whipping up special effects for filmmakers such as Tim Burton. This 220-page special edition has a revised introduction, updated layout, and comes with two pairs of red/blue anaglyph viewing glasses so that you and a friend may marvel at the enhanced roundness of our big breasted models together. Unlike other 3-D pictures you may have seen before, the photos in The Big Book of Breasts 3-D do not look distorted when viewed without the glasses. The Brain Factory’s technique is so subtle it’s hard to even detect the red/blue tint in many of the black and white photos, but when you put on your glasses the curves leap from the page, not in flat layers as in old-style 3-D, but as fully rounded body contours. It doesn’t take a genius to guess that this will be the gift book of the year. As Playboy’s Hugh Hefner recently observed, “What would people most like to see in 3-D? Probably a naked lady.” We hear you Hef, and we deliver.

Freedom with Violence: Race, Sexuality, and the US State

Chandan Reddy - 2011
He examines a crucial contradiction at the heart of modernity: the nation-state’s claim to provide freedom from violence depends on its systematic deployment of violence against peoples perceived as nonnormative and irrational. Reddy argues that the modern liberal state is organized as a “counterviolence” to race even as, and precisely because, race persists as the condition of possibility for the modern subject. Rejecting liberal notions of modernity as freedom from violence or revolutionary ideas of freedom through violence, Reddy contends that liberal modernity is a structure for authorizing state violence. Contemporary neoliberal societies link freedom to the notion of legitimate (state) violence and produce narratives of liberty that tie rights and citizenship to institutionalized violence. To counter these formulations, Reddy proposes an alternative politics of knowledge grounded in queer of color critique and critical ethnic studies. He uses issues that include asylum law and the military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy to illustrate this major rethinking of the terms of liberal modernity.
