In exchange, Kyprioth will give her magical assistance in the form of spying crows and knowledge of events at court- and eventually, her freedom. Cunning-Folk and Familiar Spirits: Shamanistic Visionary Traditions in Early Modern British Witchcraft and Magic
Emma Wilby - 2005
Until recently historians often dismissed these descriptions as elaborate fictions created by judicial interrogators eager to find evidence of stereotypical pacts with the Devil. Although this paradigm is now routinely questioned, and most historians acknowledge that there was a folkloric component to familiar lore in the period, these beliefs and the experiences reportedly associated with them, remain substantially unexamined. Cunning-Folk and Familiar Spirits examines the folkloric roots of familiar lore from historical, anthropological and comparative religious perspectives. It argues that beliefs about witches' familiars were rooted in beliefs surrounding the use of fairy familiars by beneficent magical practitioners or 'cunning folk', and corroborates this through a comparative analysis of familiar beliefs found in traditional native American and Siberian shamanism. The author explores the experiential dimension of familiar lore by drawing parallels between early modern familiar encounters and visionary mysticism as it appears in both tribal shamanism and medieval European contemplative traditions. These perspectives challenge the reductionist view of popular magic in early modern British often presented by historians.

The Body Sacred
Dianne Sylvan - 2005
Emphasizing the Mother, the Healer, the Lover, and other archetypes of one's relationship with the sacred body, the author provides a uniquely Wiccan approach to achieving a healthy, new self-perception as Goddess.Praise: "This topical guide to reclaiming a positive self-image, which builds on foundations presented in Sylvan's earlier work and is written in a very personal and approachable style, is not imbued with self-help jargon and platitudes but with the author's hard-won self-respect and perspective."--LIBRARY JOURNAL"Marrying cultural critique with user-friendly how-to, [Sylvan] urges readers to reject society's insistence that they spend countless hours and billions of dollars trying to look thin and youthful. Rather, says Sylvan, women should embrace their bodies for what they are--incarnations of the Goddess. Above all, this book is practical... What distinguishes this book more than anything is Sylvan's sense of humor--she's tackling a serious topic, but she'll have readers laughing from page one."--PUBLISHERS WEEKLY

But there are forces at work that are equally determined to put a stop to them...In The Grand Tour, Kate and Cecy and their new husbands, Thomas and James, are off on a Grand Tour. Their plans? Soon it becomes clear that they have stumbled upon a dastardly, magical plot to take over Europe. Now the four newlyweds must embark on a daring chase to thwart the evil conspiracy. Seeing Stars
Christina Jones - 2005
So she is stunned to find herself surrounded by a collection of nice bit eccentric neighbours who organise their entire lives around constellation customs and the astral calendar. More scarily, Amber finds that the villagers actually believe that the stars and moon can work magic. However, when Amber starts working for Mitzi Blessing's Hubble Bubble country cooking outlet as a waitress, Mitzi gently explains that there's a place for many kinds of magic even in the 21st century - and that her own recipes all have a touch of herbal witchery about them. loudly sceptical, but as she's grown very fond of her new friends - especially the gorgeously enigmatic Lewis - and assuming that it's all a bit of harmless fun, she hurls herself into the star-ceremonies and moon-myths on the grounds that if you can't beat 'em, join 'em and any excuse for a party. But when, as result of one of Amber's half-hearted celestial incantations, something totally inexplicable happens, she begins to wonder if maybe, just maybe, there's more to Fiddlesticks' astral-magic than meets the eye...

But even William Robinson was not who he appeared to be, for he had kept a second family with a mistress in a fashionable home near London. Here is a look at the rough-and-tumble world of turn-of-the-century entertainments, the West's discovery of Oriental culture, and Soo's strange descent into secrecy as he rose to stardom -- written by the foremost chronicler of magic's history and culture. Cassandra Eason's Complete Book of Natural Magick
Cassandra Eason - 2005
We live in a world of artificial light and energy. We have lost touch with the natural wheel of the year and our personal cycles within it. It is important that we reclaim these natural energies of life. This is the magick of the outdoors - be that urban balcony, parkland or snowy forest. It is the oldest form of magick and essentially the easiest form of spellcasting because all of the energies are around you. They will carry your wishes from thought to reality. I begin with a brief overview of spellcasting and magick for newcomers. Then, for more experienced witches, I have developed the natural themes through rituals and suggestions for enriching more formal practices. The book is entirely self-contained, though I do intend it as a comparison to my "Complete Book of Spells". This book is about everyday living as much as magick. If we can re-unite our minds and bodies back into harmony with the natural world, we open ourselves to a vast magical powerhouse.

Quantum Shaman: Diary of a Nagual Woman
Della Van Hise - 2005
A personal and chilling confrontation with the very nature of life and death, which brings the reader face to face with the shaman’s double: the immortal & mysterious Other who takes on a life of his own, & manifests the key to unlocking our own evolution of consciousness. The double is the higher self, the energy body, the dreaming body, but contrary to what we have been led to believe, the higher self is not necessarily confined to energy alone, as the author discovered on an otherwise insignificant morning in the spring of 1988. In this book, you will meet Orlando at the same time the author first encounters him - and it is a meeting that is both humorous and life-altering, for it brings what is traditionally considered impossible into the realm of possibility, and launches both author and reader into a journey that has no beginning and no end - and is as personal to every seeker as his or her own fingerprints. For anyone familiar with the works of Carlos Castaneda, or Don Miguel Ruiz, Diary of a Nagual Woman continues the journey and expands it into areas seldom explored in other works, bringing a quantum comprehension to what has traditionally been considered a mystical path alone.

Susan Greenwood - 2005
Greenwood develops a new theory of magical consciousness by arguing that magic ultimately has more to do with the workings of the human mind in terms of an expanded awareness than with socio-cultural explanations. She combines her own subjective insights gained from magical practice with practitioners' in-depth accounts and sustained academic theory on the process of magic. She also tracks magical consciousness in philosophy, myth, folklore and story-telling, and the hi-tech discourse of postmodernity.
