Manual of Grasses for North America
Mary E. Barkworth - 2007
They are the dominant species over large parts of the earth’s land surface, a fact that is reflected in the many different words that exist for grasslands, words such as prairie, veldt, palouse, and pampas to mention just a few. As a group, grasses are of major ecological importance, as soil binders and providers of shelter and food for wild animals, both large and small. Some grasses, such as wheat, rice, corn, barley, rye, tef, and sugar cane are major sources of calories for humans and their livestock; others, primarily bamboos, are used for construction, tools, paper, and fabric. More recently, the seed catalogs that tantalize gardeners each winter have borne witness to an increasing appreciation of the aesthetic value of grasses. The Manual of Grasses for North America is designed as a successor to the classic volume by Hitchcock and Chase. It reflects current taxonomic thought and includes keys, illustrations, and distribution maps for the nearly 900 native and 400 introduced species that have been found in North America north of Mexico. In addition, it presents keys and illustrations for several species that are known only in cultivation or are of major agricultural significance, either as progenitors of bread wheat and corn or as a major threat to North American agriculture because of their ability to hybridize with crop species. The Manual is a major reference work for grasses that will retain its value for many years.
The Theory and Techniques of Electronic Music
Miller Puckette - 2007
Each chapter starts with a theoretical description of one technique or problem area and ends with a series of working examples (over 100 in all), covering a wide range of applications. A unifying approach is taken throughout; chapter two, for example, treats both sampling and wavetable synthesis as special cases of one underlying technique. Although the theory is presented quantitatively, the mathematics used goes no further than trigonometry and complex numbers. The examples and supported software — along with a machine-readable version of the text — are available on the web and maintained by a large online community. The Theory and Techniques of Electronic Music is valuable both as a textbook and as professional reading for electronic musicians and computer music researchers.

Polish Sausages, Authentic Recipes And Instructions
Stanley Marianski - 2007
Before the fall of the Berlin Wall, only the Polish government and local sausage makers knew the secrets to making the finest Polish sausages. When the political climate changed, so did the sausages, as Polish manufacturers competing in the world market opted for faster and cheaper production over quality. With the release of Polish Sausages: Authentic Recipes & Instructions, the opportunity for sausage makers once again to create the best of the best Polish sausages is now possible. In 1945 someone in the newly organized government came up with a brilliant idea of standardizing Polish meat products using traditional time proven recipes. The official list of products was drawn and the Department of the Meat Industry started to work out details. In 1959 the first official guide for making meat products and sausages was issued which was followed in 1960 by a slightly revised version. Those recipes were written by the best professionals in meat science the country had. The recipes presented in this book come from those government manuals and they were never published before. Most books on sausage making are filled with unknown quality recipes, this book is different, it contains carefully compiled government recipes that were used by Polish meat plant between 1950-1990. These are recipes and production processes of the products that were made by Polish meat plants and sold to the public. Most of those sausages are still made and sold in Poland.

Fighters & Interceptors 1945-1978
Tony Buttler - 2007
American Secret Projects: Bombers, Attack and Anti-Submarine Aircraft 19451974 describes the important area of post-World War 2 bomber development in the United States. During the period to the 1970s, the U.S Air Force operated several classes of bomber-heavy long-range types for strategic operations, medium bombers, and fighter bombers for interdiction and ground support. The U.S. Navy had its own series of attack aircraft and bombers for delivering nuclear weapons, while the antisubmarine aircraft was another area to be examined in considerable depth. As a superpower, America was also able to look at some of the more unusual approaches in the creative process, for example, bombers propelled by nuclear propulsion. Many of the aircraft that entered service or flew only as prototypes resulted from design competitions involving many other proposals that for one reason or another, never left the drawing board.
