Spike Milligan: Man of Letters

Spike Milligan - 2013
Unlike his scripts, poetry, fiction or even his unique war memoirs, these letters show Milligan's talent raw and unvarnished - irreverent, often brazen, sometimes cutting, frequently outrageous - a reflection of his complex personality. Spike Milligan: Man of Letters presents a rich selection of the funniest and most revealing of his missives - most of which have never been seen before. It includes correspondence with the most famous politicians, actors, celebrities and rock stars of his day, and takes the reader behind the scenes in his wrangles with producers, publishers, editors and his impervious manager-agent. It also includes letters to a host of unlikely individuals on some surprising subjects: rounded teabags ('what did you do with the corners?'), backless hospital gowns ('beyond my comprehension'), heartfelt apologies ('pardon me for being alive') and the pressing issue of the imbalance of male and female ducks in London's parks. Here, then, is the real Spike: obsessive, rude, generous and relentlessly witty. Spike Milligan (1918-2002) was one of the greatest and most influential comedians of the twentieth century. Over the course of his astonishing career, he wrote over eighty books of fiction, poetry, plays, cartoons, children's stories and his unique war memoirs. Norma Farnes was Spike Milligan's agent, manager, mother confessor and friend for thirty-six years. Her books include Spike: An Intimate Memoir, Memories of Milligan and Milligan's Meaning of Life. She lives with her partner in London and Yorkshire.

Woodworking: Woodworking Guide for Beginner's With Step-by-Step Instructions (BONUS - 16,000 Woodworking Plans and Projects): Woodworking (Crafts and Hobbies, ... How to and Home Improvement, Carpentry)

Ted Woodrow - 2015
I took a 2 week introduction to the fundamentals of fine woodworking at Boston’s North Bennet Street School. From there, I spent 3 years working at woodworking specialty retail stores, went to North Bennet full time for 2 more years, and set up shop as a custom furniture maker, which lasted for just over 7 years. Woodworking, on many levels, is an ongoing process of reduction and refinement: Big trees into big boards, into smaller boards, into smaller pieces. Grinding cutting tools, and then honing, and polishing the edges. Rough shaping, scraping and filing of wood, followed by coarse sanding, and on into finer grits. And, the progression of learning the rough basics, and the ongoing refining what you know, and what you can do. The purpose of this book is to provide a coarse introduction to getting into the hobby. I assume that you’ll seek out other sources of information as the need arises. Woodworking as a craft spans thousands of years, and I couldn’t hope to cover all that ground. Books have been published on the topic for centuries. Taunton Press started printing Fine Wood Working 40 years ago, and many other magazines have since come and gone, or showed up and stayed. And the internet, bless its tainted soul, has been ranting and raving at an exponential rate about just about anything for over 20 years. Information overload is a real risk, especially on the internet, and I can’t stress enough that it’s something to be careful of. But in the end, any real learning that occurs will happen at the bench, as you feel for yourself how your tools are working. You’ll understand more as you see how the project comes together. You’ll get better at visualizing objects, and processes, in three dimensions, as you make the things with your own hands. The printed word can only convey so much, and it doesn’t hold a candle to what your own two hands will tell you. Here Is A Preview Of What You'll Learn... Loop-d-Loop Crochet: More Than 25 Novel Designs for Crocheters (and Kntters Taking Up the Hook)

Teva Durham - 2007
Now, the influential needlecraft guru has become a “two-timer,” bringing the same ingenuity, innovative eye, and solid fashion sense that she’s always exhibited in her knitting design to the world of crochet. In Loop-d-Loop Crochet, Durham presents more than 25 designs that are as up-to-the-minute, style-wise, as they are thoroughly steeped in crochet stitchwork tradition. Each of the projects, which range from purses, skirts, shawls, and sweaters for the whole family to a hammock and a pair of brocade boots, epitomizes Durham’s signature design sensibility, which she describes as “a tension of opposites—rough-hewn yet delicate, stark yet feminine, organic yet structured.” Decked out in evocative color photographs (by Adrian Buckmaster), a diverse cast of models show off the finished garments. Beginner and advanced crocheters will find Durham’s novel approach refreshing and inspiring. And for newcomers just making the switch from knitting, Loop-d-Loop Crochet provides the perfect introduction to what Durham terms the “flip side” of needlecraft’s heritage. Crochet is a freeing experience, Durham says—a sentiment with which her many fans are certain to agree.
