The Hollywood Scandal Almanac: 12 Months of Sinister, Salacious and Senseless History!

Jerry Roberts - 2012
The real-life scandals of Hollywood’s personalities rival any drama they bring to life on the silver screen. This book provides 365 daily doses of high and low crimes, fraud and deceit, culled from Tinseltown’s checkered past.   Whether it’s the exploits of silent-era star Fatty Arbuckle, the midcentury misdeeds of Frank Sinatra and Marilyn Monroe, or the modern excesses of Lindsay Lohan, this calendar of Hollywood transgressions has a sensational true tale for every day of the year. It’s an entertaining and sometimes shocking trip down memory lane filled with sneaky affairs, box-office bombs, and careers cut short—sometimes by murder. It shows that the drama doesn’t end when the credits roll.

These are just a few of the ghosts we meet: Grandma Thurston, whose ghost still works the loom, tugged at the Ghost Hunter's elbow in an eighteenth-century farmhouse. The Ghost at the Altar is that of a pastor whose wooden church burned down, destroying many years of work and many dreams. The specter of railroad man Joe Baldwin, who lost his head while trying to forestall a collision, still patrols a section of track in Wilmington, North Carolina. A haunted house in Los Angeles is the site of a nightly party where invisible guests celebrate as the horrified inhabitants listen on.We watch from a front-row seat as Holzer establishes a connection to the spirits behind these and other hauntings in deep-trance sessions conducted with renowned psychics. In these sessions, he eases the spirits' transition from this world to the next-and brings the reader face to face with haunted places and people around the world.Hans Holzer, Ph.D., author, investigator, parapsychologist, and expert on extrasensory perception, is known throughout the world as the Ghost Hunter. Loathe Thy Neighbour (Leading Britain's Conversation)

James O'Brien - 2014
It feeds a whole industry of commentators, pundits and politicians who take great delight in whipping us all into a frenzy, speaking for the ‘ordinary people’. But, when ugly prejudices are being fed by professionals grown fat on the fear and fury of their consumers, it is time to stop and ask whether the faceless group of immigrants really exists – or whether it just appeals to our basest fears. In this lively polemic, James O’Brien brings some common sense back into the discussion. Some people want to be frightened. They thrive on anger and division and upset. But many people don’t, and it is they who are most let down – most insulted – by the immigration debate. We don’t need to buy into this myth. There is no such thing as ‘immigrants’. There is no ‘they’. There is only ‘we’.

The Home Reader

Celina Myers - 2019
After years of living in the shadows of the paranormal industry she has collected some of her most gripping stories to share with those who love the supernatural as much as she. One thing that didn't work in their favour was the supernatural. The circumstances before my birth and the reoccurrence of the bizarre and sometimes unexplainable things over the course of my life have lead me to believe in the existence of something more. -The Beginning I soon realized this was not a sleeping child. His lips were shades of blue, the colour gone from his tiny face. His eyes open ever so slightly. I was afraid to turn. Afraid to look at the crib. - The Huntsville Estate. I couldn't breathe. I ran, I ran as fast as I could but only reaching the side of my house when I collapsed and started to vomit in the bush. The rest was a blur, but I spent countless hours of the next few weeks at the police department going over and over everything I knew about him - Dreams

The Ghost That Haunted Itself

Its gruesome history includes witchcraft, body-snatching, desecration, corpse dumping, and live burial. In 1998, something new and inexplicable began occurring in the graveyard. Visitors encountered “cold spots,” strange smells, and banging noises. They found themselves overcome by nausea, or cut and bruised by something they couldn’t see. Over a period of two years, 24 people were knocked unconscious. Homes next to the graveyard were plagued by smashing crockery, moving objects, and unidentified laughter. Witnesses to these incidents ran into the hundreds. The section of Greyfriars where the attacks occurred is now chained shut, but the poltergeist still grows stronger.

Raven: The Balance: Book Two

Nick Shamhart - 2012
Why should the afterlife be any different? We are given a choice when we die to move on to the Source, stay on earth and slowly evolve into more of what we were (good people become angels and bad people become demons), or a chosen few can work to keep the Balance between them. The title character Raven is such a warrior who works to maintain that balance.Malign, the demon responsible for most of the world’s cataclysmic wars, has come to the United States with an army of vampires or, more specifically, demons she has convinced to act as those fabled creatures of the night to sow discord and social unrest. Raven and the other Balance soldiers must track Malign down and in their spare time try to convince the ancient angel Metatron that he is doing more harm than good with his participation in mortal affairs. Tagging along for the ride are a motorcycle gang of millionaire philanthropists, Raven’s fellow Balance warrior Zeus’ younger angelic brother, and the demon Lucifer with his babysitter Gabriel. The novel is written in two styles. Each chapter begins in a soliloquy from the title character Raven, where she tells pieces of her back-story intertwined with philosophical musings on her family life and dealing with loss, with the following bulk of the chapter told in a third person narrative.
