    The art exhibit was originally planned as a fund raising event for the Blue Hill Library; gourmet food was offered as additional insurance to lure visitors.Soon the food outshone the art and the Blue Hill Buffet became famous when the New York Times called it "Superb" and The New Yorker commented: "This collection, as a whole, outshines almost any culinary galaxy you could mention."The Buffet offered either a tureen of hearty peasant soup or a punch-bowl of iced "Blueberry Ambrosia", then the main course - hot casseroles or luncheon salads, and an entire pastry repertoire: cheesecakes, torten, layer cakes, pound and cardamom coffee and tea-cakes, and their famous egg and mocha coffee.The recipes for these, and many more exciting dishes, are collected here - in answer to the thousands of requests from Blue Hill visitors.
