Nicklas Lidstrom: The Pursuit of Perfection
Gunnar Nordstrom - 2019
Drafted by the Detroit Red Wings as a 19-year-old defenseman out of his native Sweden, Lidstrom spent the next two decades manning the Motor City blueline. During those years he became a Hockeytown legend, amassing a mind-boggling collection of accomplishments and accolades: four Stanley Cups, seven Norris Trophies as the NHL’s best defenseman, a Conn Smythe Trophy, 12 All-Star selections, and gold medals in both the Olympics and World Championships. Off the ice, life appears equally idyllic: Lidstrom is uniformly respected and admired by opponents, observers, and teammates alike, and he and his wife of more than 20 years have four boys who split their time between Sweden and their adopted homeland. Perhaps only one question remains unanswered about the man teammates referred to as the Perfect Human: exactly how did he do it? In Nicklas Lidstrom: The Pursuit of Perfection, the Hall of Fame defenseman and a who’s-who of hockey luminaries investigate and reveal precisely how he made dominating the game he loves appear so effortless. How did an unimposing prospect catch the eye of Red Wings scouts during an era when few Swedes made it to the NHL? What was the secret to his remarkable endurance and longevity, allowing him to miss just 44 games in 20 grueling NHL seasons? And what level of preparation and study was required to transform a man who was not the biggest or fastest at his position into one of the greatest defensemen in hockey history? You’ll find the answers to all of this and more in Nicklas Lidstrom: The Pursuit of Perfection
Brother's Keeper
R.W.K. Clark - 2016
A misunderstood act of chivalry places Scott at the mercy of a town hiding a sinister secret. As they say, no good deed goes unpunished, and for Scott, that punishment could be his life. Sit back and enjoy this stay-up-all-night serial killer psychological thriller.Author Commentary‘Brother’s Keeper’ is my first psychological thriller, and it was simultaneously fun and challenging to write. It tells the story of Scott Sharp, a traveler whose train makes a stop at the tiny town of Burdensville. There he begins to unravel the goings-on, which pulls him into the dark secrets the town holds, and the secrets won’t let him go.Writing this story was fun for a variety of reasons. It was off the beaten path compared to most books I write. The monster in this book is not a vampire, witch, or zombie; instead, the monster is an unknown man.Scott walks into Burdensville without the slightest idea of what has been happening to this town. The whole place is off, and he can’t seem to put his finger on what is happening around him. I wanted people to really be in Burdensville while they read this. I also wanted readers to get a very specific feel for the town, Mayberry, without a shower. I did my best to convey the gloom of the constant shadows that seem to hang over the place, even when the sun was shining. That’s more or less what happens in small-town life and, evil or not, Burdensville is no different.

Raven: The Balance: Book Two
Nick Shamhart - 2012
Why should the afterlife be any different? We are given a choice when we die to move on to the Source, stay on earth and slowly evolve into more of what we were (good people become angels and bad people become demons), or a chosen few can work to keep the Balance between them. The title character Raven is such a warrior who works to maintain that balance.Malign, the demon responsible for most of the world’s cataclysmic wars, has come to the United States with an army of vampires or, more specifically, demons she has convinced to act as those fabled creatures of the night to sow discord and social unrest. Raven and the other Balance soldiers must track Malign down and in their spare time try to convince the ancient angel Metatron that he is doing more harm than good with his participation in mortal affairs. Tagging along for the ride are a motorcycle gang of millionaire philanthropists, Raven’s fellow Balance warrior Zeus’ younger angelic brother, and the demon Lucifer with his babysitter Gabriel. The novel is written in two styles. Each chapter begins in a soliloquy from the title character Raven, where she tells pieces of her back-story intertwined with philosophical musings on her family life and dealing with loss, with the following bulk of the chapter told in a third person narrative.

Sworn in Secret: Freemasonry and the Knights Templar
Sanford Holst - 2012
It was a true secret society before 1717, and most knowledge of events in those years became lost--but some original documents and many isolated records remained. This wealth of material has now been brought together to shine a surprisingly bright light on the people who shaped Freemasonry and on the development of its secret symbols, rituals and practices. Masonry's controversial relationship with the Knights Templar and Vatican also takes on new and significant meaning. The roots of Freemasonry are traced to the building of Solomon's Temple, the rise of Christianity, and the Crusades in Europe. The emergence of this secretive society in Britain had a strong influence on America. All of this is brought to life by the experiences of actual people who lived through these events--often told in their own words and drawn from remarkable collections of manuscripts and records dating back to those times. This journey of discovery is illuminated by 45 illustrations showing the symbols, people and places that made Freemasonry into what it is--a society with secrets. Sanford Holst is a noted historian and the author of Amazon's #1 book on the Phoenicians--the people who helped build Solomon's Temple. The papers he presented at universities in the USA and overseas resulted in his being elected to the prestigious Royal Historical Society in England. A 32nd degree Mason, he was able to obtain access to Masonic manuscripts not normally seen by the public or most Masons. He explored Masonic and Templar sites ranging from Scotland to the Holy Land, and benefited from the work of local experts. His informative websites are read by over 600,000 people each year.
