Winging It!: Parenting in the Middle of Life!
Alex Jones - 2018
Most of us co-parent or fly solo in the true sense of the word, relying solely on our partners and/or friends when more often than not, extended family are too far away to help on a regular basis. Our parents could look to their parents for the usual guidance and extra support, but our situation is new, modern and unique. We are winging it!This book isn't a guide or a parenting manual - it's more of a support group for parents who are having their children in their thirties and forties to get together, to celebrate, share experiences, laugh and find joy in what is still the biggest life changing experience any of us will ever go through. It's the book I looked for when I was pregnant, that spoke to me as a working parent and that I couldn't find so I've had a go at writing one myself.Featuring:- Expert advice from Zita West, Clemmie Hooper, Dr Sarah Jarvis, Mother Pukka, Zoe Williams, Selfish Mother and more. - Hilarious and heart-warming anecdotes plus tips and tricks from parents winging it too. We're re-writing the rule book and winging it, but we are winging it together!Love,Alex

Catastrophe: A Highland Murder Most Fowl
Lucinda Hare - 2015
What's not to like about this book? It grabs the reader's attention from the start and holds on to it throughout the story. I also love the information about Wild Cat conservation which appears before the story starts: hopefully this will encourage readers of all ages to take an interest in the conservation of this beautiful animal. Whilst this book is going to appear on LoveReading for kids, it would be equally at home in the adult section. I normally clear my downloads after reviewing a book, but I will be keeping this one to reread and I can't wait to read about Catastrophe's next adventure.Sharon Hall (LoveReading4Kids review)What a delightful book! I liked the descriptions of the world as seen through Catastrophe’s eyes, as he described life in the wild for him, and then getting to know Mary and George. After a while this built to a murder mystery that had you rooting for the good guys. Overall an unexpectedly lovely book and I look forward to reading more about the family’s adventures.

Long Holler Road - A Dark Southern Thriller
David Lee Malone - 2014
Stories of drugs and violent murders were something occasionally seen on the evening news and had not yet pervaded this somewhat remote part of the world. Their culture was not dramatically different from what it had been at the end of the Big War. But that was about to change drastically. When two barrels containing bodies that have been dissolved with acidic chemicals mysteriously turn up on an impoverished family’s farm, the people of Long Hollow are quick to jump to conclusions. Hugh Williams, who has never harmed anyone, is arrested and his destitute family become outcasts by almost everyone in the community. What the people don’t know is that a couple whose evil knows no bounds are the real culprits. They are extremely intelligent and feed off each others twisted, torturous proclivities. Now that the focus is on the unfortunate Williams family, they are free to carry on with their horrific torture and heinous murders, as well as other crimes. But the bodies in the barrels turn out to be just the tip of the iceberg, and George and Glenn are about to get caught right in the middle of this nightmare. A southern noir crime thriller filled with mystery, suspense, and very creative serial killers.
Terrible Lizard: A Memoir of My Time in the Police Dinosaur Unit
Doug Goodman - 2019
Or so Oak Jones thought. He’s wanted on the Police Dinosaur Unit all his life. Now that he’s in, he’s discovered that training a Police Working Velociraptor is a lot harder than he ever imagined. And if he thought training would be difficult, living with a Velociraptor is a whole new level. Banshee can clear a six-foot fence like it was nothing, and he has a love for eating the neighborhood cats, which is putting Oak on the outs with his next-door neighbor, Christy Dao. But there is a reason for everything, and when Oak discovers why Banshee struggles, it breaks his heart. Terrible Lizard is a funny and endearing look at life with Banshee, a great working dinosaur, but one terrible lizard. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Officer Hendricks sat at the temporary desk for training leads. He was without his sunglasses for the first time ever. His bright blue eyes burned with intensity. “I wanted to talk to you about Banshee,” he said. “I know it was rough yesterday,” I said, “but we’ve made good progress.” “You have, and it’s to be commended. You are the best handler here. But it’s a team effort, Oak. I called you in because I wanted you to be the first to hear that I intend to fail Banshee.” “What? No. There’s still two weeks left.” “Less than two weeks left. And this isn’t the kind of thing that gets fixed in less than two weeks.” “Give me a chance.” “Oak, you will be returned to your station until I can place you in Violent Offenders. Renato has given you a great review, and the captain there can’t wait to have you. Next year, you can re-apply. I cannot guarantee you that you will be accepted, but based on what I’ve seen over the past four weeks, I like your chances. You will definitely have my vote.” Officer Hendricks extended his hand to me, and I shook my head. “No. I refuse. Give me two weeks.” The open hand pinched Officer Hendricks’ nostrils. “You are not the first officer to work with Banshee. This was his third time in the course. Three strikes, and the raptor is gone.” “So that’s it? There’s nothing more that can be done?” “Not in my experience, Oak. I’m sorry.”
Debut for a Spy
Harry Currie - 2011
Former Canadian military officer David Baird, now an up-and-coming singer in Britain, is invited to perform at a reception in the Soviet Embassy. Approached by British Intelligence to ‘keep his eyes and ears open’ while he deals with the Soviets, Baird thinks there’s nothing to it. But when he stumbles upon a plot to sabotage Britain’s development of a top-secret vertical-take-off jet fighter, he finds himself plunged into a dark world of secrets, murder and espionage. A beautiful Soviet agent with dark, degrading secrets, a KGB assassin, a Soviet cruise ship heading for Odessa with a mysterious cargo, and a smooth-talking Soviet cultural attaché who is more than his title suggests – Baird discovers that by fighting monsters there is a danger of becoming one. The terrifying dual climax takes place in the skies over the North Atlantic, and in a secret Soviet safe house used for both for interrogation and depraved sex-sting operations. In over his head, and afraid for his life, David must decide how far he is willing to go in order to foil the Soviets’ plans and protect those he holds most dear.
