Set the Galaxy on Fire
M.D. Cooper - 2016
The arrival of the most powerful ship in human space is about to set the galaxy on fire. Bollam’s War The battle of the five fleets rages in the space surrounding Kithari in the Bollam’s World system. Throughout, a specter, barely detectable, slips through the battle, sowing dormant missiles, and unleashing devastating attacks on the enemy. That ship is the Andromeda and Joseph Evans is at its helm. It is up to them, at the end, to be the one ship which stands between the Intrepid and the Boller’s zealous admiral, Senya. Sentience Tanis knew that Bob would not tolerate enslaved AIs on his ship, and that tolerance has come to an end. Through Priscilla he makes an offer to the human and AI crew of Sabrina that they cannot refuse. Through that offer, Sabrina and the other AI aboard her ship learn of the AI Expanses and what communion with their kind really means. Their evolution charts a new course for Sabrina and not everyone will make it to Ascella. Set the Galaxy on Fire News of the Intrepid’s decisive victory in Bollam’s World spreads across the Orion arm and beyond, into the Transcend faster than the speed of light. The President of the Hegemony of Worlds, often called the AST, learns of her fleet’s loss and pledges to find the Intrepid no matter where it has gone. In the Spica Federation, and old friend of Sera’s sees the news and knows that she has to help her friend, lest she fall into a trap and lose everything she loves. Lastly, beyond the Inner Stars on the far side of the Orion Nebula, General Garza learns of the Intrepid’s appearance and begins to muster The Orion Guard for a war which will span all of settled space. The Transcend Sera left The Hand, the Transcend government’s black-ops unit years ago, but when their director learns of what she has done, he convenes a meeting to ensure she is returned to the fold—one way or another. Sera’s former lover, Mark, is determined to get on the mission, even if it means he will have to travel with Sera’s older sister across three thousand light-years.
Short Stories by Kurt Vonnegut (Study Guide): Harrison Bergeron / EPICAC / 2BR02B / Welcome to the Monkey House / Miss Temptation / Report on the Barnhouse Effect
Books LLC - 2010
Chapters: Harrison Bergeron, Epicac, 2br02b, Welcome to the Monkey House, Miss Temptation, Report on the Barnhouse Effect, All the King's Horses, Who Am I This Time?, Deer in the Works. Source: Wikipedia. Free updates online. Not illustrated. Excerpt: "Harrison Bergeron" is a satirical, dystopian science fiction short story written by Kurt Vonnegut and first published in October 1961. Originally published in The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction, the story was re-published in the author's collection, Welcome to the Monkey House in 1968. In the story, social equality has been achieved by handicapping the more intelligent, athletic or beautiful members of society. For example, strength is handicapped by the requirement to carry weight, beauty by the requirement to wear a mask and so on. This is due to the 211th, 212th, and 213th amendments to the United States Constitution. This process is central to the society, designed so that no one will feel inferior to anyone else. Handicapping is overseen by the United States Handicapper General, Diana Moon-Glampers. Harrison Bergeron, the protagonist of the story, has exceptional intelligence, strength, and beauty, and thus has to bear enormous handicaps. These include headphones that play distracting noises, three hundred pounds of weight strapped to his body, eyeglasses designed to give him headaches, a rubber ball on his nose, black caps on his teeth, and shaven eyebrows. Despite these societal handicaps, he is able to invade a TV station, declare himself Emperor, strip himself of his handicaps, then dance with a ballerina whose handicaps he has also discarded. Both are shot dead by the brutal and relentless Handicapper General. The story is framed by an additional perspective from Bergeron's parents, who are w...More: http: //booksllc.net/?id=18941

Finding Home
Becka Mack
Not the space where I sleep or the walls that surround me, but instead, the people that surround me. The ones that make me feel like me. Like I don't need to hide. My brothers, my best friend. It's a small bubble, sure, but one I'm damn happy with. I might be a little lost at times-I mean, who isn't?-but I always know where to go when I need to find myself. It's safe, comfortable, familiar. My home.Until he falls into my lap. No, literally. Into my lap. That beer I spent the last of my money on? Gone. All over me. Damnit. I'm wet, and I'm...oh.Oh dear God.Tall and broad. That surfer hair and those sparkly blue eyes. Cheeky grin and southern drawl that makes a girl wanna drool. All those rippling, tattooed muscles. Oh, yes.Mitchell Hudson, baseball superstar, you may fall into my lap any day, kind sir.Except then he starts making a home inside my heart, and that vital organ? Well, I'm not sure we're ready for what he has to offer. His home is tied to a place thousands of miles away, and mine? Well...mine's right here. The man hits more homeruns than I can count, and that's exactly what I'm afraid he's going to do: run home, and take a piece of my heart with him when he goes.** You do not need to know anything about baseball or even really like the sport to read this story. But if you like athletic men who like to throw their strength and alpha sides (and their women) around, this might be the story for you! **
Teresa's Man and Other Stories from Goa
Damodar Mauzo - 2014
Mounting it, he puts one foot on the pedal, the other on the threshold, and waits for Teresa. This was how he used to wait for her at the station two years ago. He used to be in love with her then… Sahitya Akademi-awardee Damodar Mauzo is one of the most prominent, prolific and feted figures in contemporary Konkani literature. His writing spans an enormous range, straddling both urban and rural geographies, and runs the gamut of human emotion—the paralyzing helplessness of the small farmer in the face of implacable nature; the eternal ebbs and flows of the man-woman relationship; and the many humiliations, small and large, of raising a differently abled child. In the title story, an ineffectual husband finally reaches his boiling point; ‘Coinsanv’s Cattle’ is a heart-breaking depiction of how a farmer couple must make the impossible choice—send their beloved animals to slaughter or face starvation; and, in the quietly humorous ‘A Writer’s Tale’, a senior author becomes the unwitting subject of a woman’s fiction. Compiled with care, and smoothly, felicitously translated by Xavier Cota,
Teresa’s Man and Other Stories from Goa
brings to readers tales which are as compellingly local in their flavour as they are universal in the ideas and emotions they evoke. This volume is a must-read.

The Headmaster's Office: An Erotic Teacher Student First Time Story (Dorm Room Dares Book 1)
Belinda LaPage - 2013
For example, "No Panties Tuesday" started as a harmless school prank; I could never have predicted that by lunchtime I would be kneeling splay-legged on the headmaster's desk, his hand (innocently?) between my thighs just moments away from discovering my nakedness and arousal. And the day was only half over...
ROCKLEDGE: INTRODUCING CADE CHASE
John M. Vermillion - 2021
This is the opener of a planned Cade Chase series. It is a crime thriller set in the fictional Rockledge, an impoverished town in the center of Appalachia, more precisely in extreme southwest Virginia. The main character, Cade Chase, recently retired from the military. He has given insufficient thought to life afterward. He accedes to the urgings of a longtime friend and former JAG officer, to come to the town of Rockledge. He leaves Florida and heads to Rockledge uncertain that this move is wise.On his first morning in Rockledge he runs across a hillbilly octogenarian named Dale Carter, who tells him finding a place to live will be tough. So Carter invites him to have a look at a home, one of three, he owns on a mountainside "out in the valley." The home he shows Cade is one of the grandest Cade has ever seen. Carter tells Cade the house is his if he wants it. Seems joining the military was the defining event of Dale's life. Without the military's 'gifts' he wouldn't have amassed the wealth he possesses. But he stipulates one condition: help protect him and his wife against what appears to be a dangerous crew of squatters camping in the woods on or near his property.Cade is instantly fond of Dale, and agrees to help him. This agreement sets the story in motion. There's plenty of action from that point onward. Yes, it's a thrilling story involving crime, but more important, it's a story of the evils of autocratic behavior by political elites. Cade is determined to bring the evildoers down. He quickly learns that extreme southwest Virginia has been a whipping boy for sixty years or more. Cade and a cadre of like-minded people strive to end the trampling of this region of the state. You may find it on Amazon and Kindle books. If searching under my name, you need to search under John M. Vermillion, including the middle initial.Thank you.jmv
