Storm from the East: From Genghis Khan to Khubilai Khan

Robert Marshall - 1993
It had been forged under the banner of one of the greatest generals in history, Genghis Khan, and ruled by men who, a generation before, had been simple nomadic tribesmen. Accompanying a BBC2 series, this book traces the rise and fall of the Mongol Empire, describing the great storm that revolutionized the trade of goods and ideas in the medieval world and shattered the Euro-centric view of science and culture. The Mongols introduced the first international currency, built and projected vast highways across the Asian grasslands, and carved out the major political groups of modern Asia. The book gives an essentially Eastern view of these first important contacts between the Orient and the Occident. The author's other books include "All the King's Men", "Shadow Makers" and "In the Sewers of Lvov".

The Virginity Game

DarkWaters
Each year they would declare a winner on who would be the first too take another girls V-card, and with each year, the pressure would be increased and the boys aim at more girls. Last year, it’s said the group created a website, broadcasting the girls they’ve already had to the entire school, as well as anyone else paying attention, but only if they had a password to the site. There were six boys, they were all gorgeous, and they were constantly referred by girls as the “Sexy Six”. The first two years of my high school life, I had gone seemingly unnoticed by the Sexy Six, almost as if I was one of the girls none of them wanted, though almost all of my friends had been claimed by them. I, of course, didn’t complain. I would rather be seen as a grenade than a trophy, but I was still slightly wounded… who wouldn’t be if all their friends were picked long ago? I avoided the boys anyway, never succumbing to my envy and trying to get chosen simply so I wouldn’t be left out. When it was time for my last year of high school to begin, I had hoped they would just leave me alone. To bad the victim, is me.

Gerald M. Nosich - 2000
KEY TOPICS: A combination of instruction and exercises shows them how to use critical thinking to become active learners rather than passive recipients of information, more fully appreciate the power of the discipline they are studying, to see its connections to other fields and to their day-to-day lives, and to maintain an overview of the field so they can see the parts in terms of the whole . The model of critical thinking (used throughout the book) is in terms of the elements of reasoning, standards, and critical thinking processes. This model is well-suited to thinking through any problem or question. The 4th edition reflects streamlined writing, with changes and substantial edits on virtually every page. MARKET: For Freshman Orientation or Critical Thinking courses as well as a supplementary text for use in any subject-matter at any educational level.
