The Myth of Helter Skelter

Susan Atkins-Whitehouse - 2012
This is the story of Helter Skelter. After decades of receiving letters from misguided youth and misinformed fanatics, Susan Atkins hoped to produce a counter-point to the "Helter Skelter" story that would demystify the crimes and show them for what they were. She hoped if she could explain them maybe they would no longer be the point of obsession they have become to some. “People are intrigued by what they don’t understand.” Susan Atkins-Whitehouse

The Co-Ed Killer: A Study of the Murders, Mutilations, and Matricide of Edmund Kemper III

Margaret Cheney - 1976
After five years in a California hospital for sex offenders, this intelligent giant (IQ 136; height 6'9") emerged to carry out the meticulously rehearsed murders of six hitchhiking girls, culminating in the murder, mutilation - and more - of his mother and her friend. Tried and found guilty, Kemper was labeled sane so that he could be given a life sentence in a prison. Margaret Cheney tells a totally compelling story based on Kemper's enormously detailed confession and extensive interviews with scores of those involved with Kemper's gruesome career. At the same time she perceptively explores Kemper's twisted motivations and the implications of his crimes and trial in a culture that seems to actively promote the acceptance of savagery.

The Face of Evil: The True Story of Serial Killer Robert Black

Robert Giles - 2017
He died in HMP Maghaberry, Northern Ireland, in January 2016, aged sixty-eight, unmourned, and entirely unrepentant of his repellent crimes. These bald facts, horrific as they are, do not begin to scratch the surface of the truth about Robert Black, a Scottish-born serial killer who undoubtedly committed further murders for which he was never tried, both in this country and on the Continent. In this ground-breaking account, Robert Giles, who has spent years tracing the killer’s movements and sifting through all the evidence, including transcripts of the trials, convincingly argues that Black was an habitual serial killer over many years, and quite certainly responsible for more than the four child murders for which he was convicted.Co-written with Chris Clark, a former police intelligence officer whose tireless work into the Yorkshire Ripper produced convincing new evidence of other murders that went unnoticed or unrecorded, The Face of Evil shows once and for all that Robert Black was a serial killer whose crimes went far beyond what is generally believed. In doing so, it paints a portrait of human cruelty at its worst.

Silent Rage: Inside the Mind of a Serial Killer

Michael Newton - 1994
Raised by an abusive mother and weak father, Cole accomplished his first murder before he was ten years old. He went on to murder at least 14 women. Sexual attacks, necrophilia, and cannibalization peppered his wanderings. Backed by 32 weeks of exclusive interviews with Cole and years of exhaustive research, Michael Newton paints one of the most chilling true portraits of the development of a sociopathic personality ever made available to the public. Newton traces Cole's gruesome career across four decades, until Cole's execution by the state of Nevada. ***** They are law enforcement's most elusive prey. More dangerous than hitmen, gang assassins, and crowd snipers, the "recreational killer" is almost impossible to capture. Choosing their victims at random, drifting from town to town, their brutal crimes leave a smoking trail of bloodshed across the nation-and many of them are never apprehended until they decide to turn themselves in. This year, 3,500 "thrill killings" will go unsolved. Cole's story is a searing lesson in the horror of crimes like this-and the terrifying inability of our society to prevent them.

The Garden State Parkway Murders

Christian Barth - 2020
All of that was accomplished. It was remarkable.” - John Divel, Ocean City Police Department The Garden State Parkway Murders: A Cold Case Mystery is the first and only historical account of the unsolved murders of college friends Susan Davis and Elizabeth Perry, who were stabbed to death in the woods alongside the Garden State Parkway near Ocean City, New Jersey on Memorial Day 1969. The discovery of the wealthy coeds three days after their slayings, as reported by Walter Cronkite on the CBS Evening News, touches off one of the largest manhunts in New Jersey since the Lindbergh baby kidnapping. Over the next ten years the New Jersey State Police, Atlantic County (N.J.) Prosecutor’s Office, and FBI question thousands of people, tracking leads as far as San Francisco in search of the killer. Among the suspects are infamous serial killers Ted Bundy and Gerald Eugene Stano, who were living within an hour’s drive from the murders at the time they occurred, resided next to one another for a time on Florida’s Death Row, and indirectly confessed to the murders before being executed. The Garden State Parkway Murders tracks the author’s decade-long obsession with seeking justice for Davis and Perry. Presented with all the information surrounding these brutal murders, including a discussion of recent technological advancements in DNA and FBI serial killer profiling, the reader is asked to consider, why hasn’t this cold case been solved?

Salford Lads: The Rise and Fall of Paul Massey

Bernard O'Mahoney - 2021
Contained within these pages, is his story. It is a story that will horrify the non criminal mind and lay bare, how Massey unwittingly became the architect of his own demise. Massey was not the only casualty of a toxic feud that had ignited between two Salford gangs following the most trivial of disputes. John Kinsella, a close friend of Massey's, was gunned down in front of his pregnant partner. A seven-year-old boy and his mother were shot, a hand grenade was hurled through the front window of a family home, an attempt was made to behead a man with a machete and an orgy of beatings, stabbings, kidnappings and shootings were carried out in the name of respect. In today's underworld, the old school criminal code has been confined to the bin. Being known as a hard man, once demanded respect, but no more. Guns, and having the mindset to use one, often for little or no reason, has become the norm. Drugs are the currency and death often the penalty for a discrepancy or misdemeanour. It is an unforgiving world that Paul Massey helped to create and a world, that ultimately resulted in his death.

Steven Avery - Missing Evidence: The Examination of The Making a Murderer Documentary

Tony Castella - 2016
Over night thousands of armchair detectives went on the offensive demanding Avery receive a new trial in the belief that both he and Dassey had been framed by planted evidence placed by the Manitowoc County Sheriff's Department. EDITORS NOTE: JAN 27th - Due to an error on behalf of the company formatting this book, a draft manuscript has originally been used which contained several spelling errors. This has been corrected in the current upload of this file. Those that were involved in the arrest and trial of Steven Avery immediately responded to the accuracy of the documentary Making a Murderer and complained that the film was highly biased and left out important evidence that was used to convict both Dassey and Avery. In this ground breaking new book by Tony Castella, he examines the missing evidence and presents the facts as were presented by the prosecution during both the Avery and Dassey trials. You will go behind the scenes to examine critical evidence you likely were not aware of and was not included in the Netflix documentary. It's a unique opportunity to see what the jurors saw when they handed down a guilty verdict. Includes rare photographs of evidence and links to important court documents.
