All of the events that are described in this book actually took place, even though they are quite incredible. The book is an intense yet addictive read as it is so well observed from the eyes of a naïve young woman who makes up for her inability to hear with her acute awareness of visual detail and keen observation of the characters that she encounters along this insane and horrifying journey.
