The Other Side of Heaven

John H. Groberg - 1996
At the urging of many people whom I admire, I have attempted to describe some of the experiences and feelings I encountered those many years ago. The main purpose of this book is to emphasize the overwhelming need for faith in our lives. I realize that in some ways I am describing a time and a place and circumstances that no longer exist. Yet in other ways, I am describing feelings and challenges that are as old as time and as fresh as the morning sun. I am convinced that regardless of the physical background or the decade our life's experiences are cast against, the need for love and faith to bring meaning to our lives and reason for our decisions remains unchanged. I do not apologize for the time, the place, or the circumstances described, as that was the way it was. I suppose most people who have passed through this planet earth have lived and died closer to the type of life described herein than the hectic one we live in America today. We all need more faith, and I know we can learn from others. In looking back and reading letters and other items written at the time, I have tried to describe how I felt then. I had no feeling that I was going into a particularly hard situation or that things were going to be tough. I had no thought of doing anything unusual, but rather simply wanted to do my best to get through each day doing as much good and as little damage as possible.

Fire of Faith: The Memoirs of John H. Groberg

John H. Groberg - 1996

His story continues with The Fire of Faith, set a decade after his release when Elder Groberg is called back to Tonga-this time with a growing family-to serve as mission president.Like the earlier volume, this book is filled with experiences among a faithful people. Here we read of the young man who calmly endured a terrible beating from his brother rather than remain unbaptized; the excitement and joy of the first Tongan group to attend the New Zealand Temple; the faithful Saints and their long-delayed chapel dedication; examples of the love shared by Tongan family members; the inspiration that led to the fiftieth Tongan anniversary jubilee; the work of highly dedicated missionaries; the organization of the first stake in Tonga; miracles of faith; and much, much more. And always there is the sea, the only pathway between the islands-the perilous ocean that often denies access to the desired shore after a long journey. But faith somehow always wins the day.

Earth: In the Beginning

Eric N. Skousen - 1996
The author also examines the surprising and significant effects of the Fall on the earth itself. It was not until the original writings of Moses and Abraham were restored that modern students of the earth's creation story were in a position to begin assembling the illuminating facts that are resented in this book. For those who enjoy contemplating both the findings of science and the revelations of God, this will be an extremely stimulating and provocative study.Among the questions addressed and answered in this book are:Where did the earth's creation take place? Who participated?Did the creation take 6,000 years or millions of years? How did life begin on the earth? How did it develop?Where did the dinosaurs come from? Why were they here?Did human beings live on the earth before the arrival of Adam and Eve?What really happened in the Garden of Eden? Are there evidences of God's handiwork in the rock record of the earth? Are there answers to the unresolved questions of earth scientists in God's revealed record of the creation? Why did the Fall have such important astronomical and geological implications for the earth? And finally: What we hear in church about the creation doesn't always match wat we learn in school--or does it?
