In the early 1800s, the Five Civilized Tribes—the Cherokee, Seminole, Chickasaw, Muscogee-Creek, and Choctaw—were living in lands allocated to them by the United States government in present-day Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee.
