He seems dazed and confused, providing in a peculiar patois of the Bajoran language, unsatisfactory answers. He offers his identity as Altek, of which there is no apparent record, and he claims not to know where he is or how he got there. A quick scan confirms the visitor is armed with a projectile weapon;a firearm more antiquated than, but similar to, the one that took President Bacco's life. But the Bajoran liaison to the station believes that Altek has been sent from the Prophets, out of a nearby wormhole. The last time such an event occurred, it was to reassure Benjamin Sisko of his place as the Emissary. For what purpose has Altek now been sent out of the Celestial Temple?

    But the stakes are higher than anyone imagines, for the pull of destiny tugs at other souls who are swept into the vortex of the Prophets, remote and timeless beings who have set these events in motion.     Captain Sisko finds himself in Harlem in the 1950s, where he is Benny Russell, a science fiction writer, who copes with racism by writing of DS-9 and its Black captain.

    Two of the fleet's special mission vessels, the U.S.S. Galen and U.S.S. Demeter, are left at New Talax to aid Neelix's people, while the Voyager, Quirinal, Esquiline, Hawking, and Curie do a systematic search for any remnants of the Borg or Caeliar, even as the Achilles moves to a location central enough to offer aid to the exploring vessels as needed.
