"Choice, Awareness, Responsibility" "Human Sexuality, Third Edition," helps students develop and design their own sexual philosophy. Every chapter begins with actual student questions from the author's files during nearly 20 years of teaching the human sexuality course. Throughout each chapter the questions are answered and new ones are posed--encouraging students to think critically, analyze, and apply the material in personally relevant ways. Hock takes a psychosocial approach, infused with biological foundations throughout the text. The book focuses on topics that are most critical and of greatest relevance to students' personal lives and their interactions with others, and on how these topics affect them emotionally, psychologically, and interpersonally. This student-centered approach is incorporated into the text's discussions of all areas of sexuality: psychological, social and biological (including medical issues, sexual health, sexual anatomy and sexual physiology). Sensitivity to diverse groups, not only in terms of race and ethnicity, but also in terms if sexual orientation, age, sexual knowledge, and sexual experience allows all students to feel as comfortable and open about sexual topics as possible. This was exactly what I've been looking for."-Graham Panci"Thank you for showing me how I can use my mind much more effectively. It all makes sense now that I've read it here. Eye opening!"-Clay Winters"Brilliantly simple, I've heard of some of these things before, but never had it explained so completely and so clearly. Many thanks John."-Julie YotoFREE EXCERPT:Mnemonic Tip 2- Convert Digits into WordsRemembering phrases is easier than remembering a series of digits. Similarly whole words are easier to remember than just single letters. So try to convert single digits and letters into words and then out them into memorable sentences. The reason these are more memorable than digits or letters alone is that there is no meaning, no reference point to a single number or a letter, and so they don’t make much of an impression on our minds. Actors can remember whole scripts, some then remember these for the rest of their lives. They can do this because the words, the phrases, have such a clear meaning to them; they are characters and stories. If they tried to remember the same amount of information in the form of just numbers or letters they would have no chance. This is an important aspect to all of these mnemonic devices, moving information of little meaning, to something of greater meaning. For example we can turn the digits 0 1 8 2 4 into the phrase “Only One Crate of beer tonight for me”. Here I have converted the numbers into words in the following way:Only= 0 or ZeroOne= 1Crate=8 (here I am using only a phonetically similar word, but still this is more than enough to make it memorable and link us back to the number 8.)Tonight= TwoFor= FourThis was quite straight forward for just five digits. But for longer series of digits, such as a whole phone number, the same process applies. Take your time to practice this on your own phone number now, or maybe create a random series of digits, and then code it into a sentence. It will seem difficult at first, but with a small amount of practice you can quickly become adept at this method. The exact same process can be applied to letters. Perhaps the letters H P become the words “Harry Potter”. And so, if you wanted to remember the code 01824HP you could encode it into the phrase:‘“Only one crate of beer tonight for me” said Harry Potter.’Read it a few times aloud to yourself then turn into an image in your mind, visualize it clearly; picture Harry Potter sat drinking beer at a bar, then saying this as he burps loudly. Creating a visual image will cause the phrase to route more deeply into your mind as you are creating a clear memory, and building a still deeper and stronger collection of new pathways in your mind.I promise you this image and phrase will be easier to remember than the 5 digits and 2 letters would by themselves.

Tesla Motors: How Elon Musk and Company Made Electric Cars Cool, and Sparked the Next Tech Revolution

Charles Morris - 2014
The most trusted sources in the auto industry have called its Model S the most advanced, safest and best-performing car ever built - and it doesn’t use a drop of gasoline. Tesla has changed the way the public perceives electric vehicles, and inspired the major automakers to revive their own dormant efforts to sell EVs. However, even amidst the avalanche of media coverage that followed the triumph of the Model S, few have grasped the true significance of what is happening. Tesla has redefined the automobile, sparked a new wave of innovation comparable to the internet and mobile computing revolutions, and unleashed forces that will transform not just the auto industry, but every aspect of society. The Tesla story is one part of an ongoing tide of change driven by the use of information technology to eliminate “friction” such as geographic distance, middlemen and outdated regulations. Tesla is simply applying the new order to the auto industry, but the automobile is such a pervasive influence in our lives that redefining how it is designed, built, driven and sold will have sweeping effects in unexpected areas. Just as Tesla built the Model S as an electric vehicle “from the ground up,” it has taken an outsider’s approach to the way it markets its cars. Its direct sales model has drawn legal challenges from entrenched auto dealers, who fear that their outdated business model will be destroyed. Its systems approach to the software and electronics in its cars has highlighted how far behind the technological times the major automakers are. It’s easy to see why readers find Tesla irresistible. CEO Elon Musk is a superstar entrepreneur, a “nauseatingly pro-US” immigrant and the leader of two other cutting-edge companies. Tesla dares to challenge the establishment behemoths and, so far at least, has handily beaten them at their own game. In this history of the 21st century’s most exciting startup, Charles Morris begins with a brief history of EVs and a biography of Tesla’s driving force, Elon Musk. He then details the history of the company, told in the words of the Silicon Valley entrepreneurs who made it happen. There are many fascinating stories here: Martin Eberhard’s realization that there were many like himself, who loved fast cars but wanted to help the environment and bring about the post-oil age; the freewheeling first days, reminiscent of the early internet era; the incredible ingenuity of the team who built the Roadster; Tesla’s near-death experience and miraculous resurrection; the spiteful split between the company’s larger-than-life leaders; the gloves-off battles with hostile media such as Top Gear and the New York Times; and the media’s ironic about-face when the magnificent Model S won the industry’s highest honors, and naysayers became cheerleaders overnight. And the story is just beginning: Tesla has breathtakingly ambitious plans for the future. This book was updated May 1, 2015 to include the latest on the Gigafactory and the D package.
