Yours Forever

Sherelle Green - 2017
Strong, dark, and flavorful. However, while most women were trying to drink the entire coffee pot, Mac was more of a Keurig kind of girl, opting to have frivolous casual flings as opposed to meaningful relationships. While attending one of her best friends’ weddings—in a moment influenced by too many mojitos—the Feng-Shui consultant foolishly agrees to a pact; to marry within the next year. Her friends don’t think she’s going to go through with it. Honestly, Mac is uneasy about the entire idea. But she doesn’t mind cuddling up with the most mouth-watering cup of coffee she sees in the meantime… the best man, Alexander Carter. Alex is successful, talented, devastatingly handsome, and surprisingly celibate. At least, he was, until a beautiful bombshell rocked his world before leaving him with nothing more than a piece of paper with a kiss on it in her wake. It’s not that the CEO of an environmental engineer firm minds being used, but typically, if a woman wants him for only sex, he at least takes her to dinner first. Imagine his surprise when that same feisty vixen is placed into his life again, and as expected, she seems to be wearing her running shoes. Yet, this time, Alex is ready for the temptress. A little fun and games never hurt anyone, right? Unless fun and games starts looking a whole lot like promises and forever.

The Tsars

Alexander Ivanov - 2018
Here, historian Alexander Ivanov reveals their fears and betrayals, privilege and debauchery, conspiracies and rivalries, love and tragedy as they forged Russia into one of the world's greatest empires. No ruler in history has embodied the oppressive domination of these rulers more vividly than Alexander Ivanov's opening subject, Tsar Ivan IV, the first of all the Russian tsars, known to history as Ivan the Terrible. Although a gifted ruler who did much to unite and improve the conditions in his primitive country, Ivan was also a notorious sadist who delighted in torturing and murdering anyone who displeased him. Ivan's death in 1584 ushered in the Time of Troubles, thirty-five years of famine, plague, and war that crippled the nation. A series of rulers attempted to cope with the devastation, beginning with Ivan's successor Boris Godunov. Finally, grasping for stability, Russia's nobles begged young Michael Romanov, the great-nephew of Ivan's beloved wife Anastasia, to take the throne. Michael successfully united the war-torn and ravaged nation and founded a dynasty that would rule for 300 years. The Romanov line produced Russia's most brilliant yet most unconventional sovereign: Peter the Great, a towering figure of a man whose restless, creative mind led him on an inexorable quest to modernize and civilize the still backward nation. The reforms he enacted so enraged nobles and peasants alike that Peter had to quash a series of rebellions to keep his crown. Ruthlessly stifling dissent and massacring rebels, he ultimately cowed the Russian people into submission, achieving a legacy that nearly equaled his ambitions. It was left to a woman - and a foreigner, at that - to lead the nation further out of the darkness. German princess Sophie Friederike Auguste of Anhalt-Zerbst, known to the world as Catherine the Great, absorbed the principles of the eighteenth-century Enlightenment and applied them to a country built on the backs of millions of serfs. However ineffective some of her policies, in the end, she made Russia a major player on the European stage. Serfdom was finally abolished in the nineteenth century, but it would be decades before Russian peasants could own land of their own and learn to farm it productively. The boyars and tsars clung to power until the Bolshevik revolution of 1917. The sad fate of the last tsar, Nicholas II, and his family, marked the end of the absolute power that Ivan the Terrible had so exploited. The abuses would continue but under a new and drastically different form of government.

The Nazi Officers Wife: Summary and Analysis of the Nazi Officers Wife: How One Jewish Woman Survived the Holocaust

Summary Station - 2014
Regularly priced at $9.99. Read on your PC, Mac, smart phone, tablet or Kindle device Beer starts her story by remembering a fellow nurse who illegally bought an onion to feed to a dying Russian soldier. Beer explains that she, a nurse's aide, could have caused trouble for her fellow nurse because the Nazi regime frowned upon forming friendships with prisoners, with people who were not Nordic Aryans, and because the onion was a rare commodity by 1943 and it was illegal to buy via a black market. Beer explains that many of the other nurses would have caused trouble for the one with the onion because they bought into the propaganda, truly believing that they were better than the foreign prisoners they served. Instead of bartering for food to give to the injured prisoners, they were more likely to steal food from the prisoners, to bring that food home so the nurses could feed their own hungry families. Most of the prisoners in Brandenburg were not actually injured in war but injured in their servitude; having been conquered, they were forced to work in factories full of industrial accidents. Beer explains that she was transferred from this ward of injured prisoners to work in the maternity ward because someone tattled on her, saying she was too friendly with the foreigners. Informers to the Gestapo were everywhere; the nurse with the onion could have easily been seen by an informant and punished. Before the war, Beer was a law student in Austria, but as the war grew and Germany spread, her name was put on a wanted list. To avoid persecution, she became a "U-boat," a Jewish person living with a secret identity in the heart of Germany.
