Queenology

R.C. Blakes Jr. - 2018
One might call it the sequel. In the Father Daughter Talk he diagnoses the condition of a generation of women who are suffering from a deep father wound and the implications on their choices and self esteem. If the Father Daughter Talk is a diagnosis, QUEENOLOGY is the prescription. In this book (QUEENOLOGY), he expands his message to the woman to the next dimension. He boldly declares that every woman is a queen and in spite of her broken history, royalty is her destiny. Queenology offers the woman insights and principles for reigning in spite of the odds being against her. Queenology is as a king sitting down with queens and saying this is who you are and here's how you do it. Queenology is R.C. Blakes' answer to a generation of queens who've not been informed of their true station yet. In the book he discusses such principles as: Queens manage emotion, Queens study kings, Queens are financially savvy, Queens maximize their potential, Queens eliminate insecurity and negativity, Queens possess presence, Queens only hear kings, and Queens keep a royal circle. Queenology is a manual for the modern queen. It is for the woman who is ready to fix her crown, take her throne and expand her empire.

Beneath A Colesberg Sky

The land is raw-boned and unforgiving – the men and women who search its heart for wealth, love and adventure, even more so. Smoke from a thousand fires clung to a broken landscape and towering above it, churned from a vast and open wound in the earth’s crust, were those billowing clouds of powdered Kimberlite; as yellow, ochrous fingers they reached upwards for over a thousand feet, deep inside the heart of that darksome Colesberg sky.

Bookclub-in-a-Box Discusses Cutting For Stone, the novel by Abraham Verghese

Marilyn Herbert - 2010
The narrative begins in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, when twin boys, Shiva and Marion, are born to a nun (who dies) and a surgeon (who runs away). The babies, conjoined at the head, are successfully separated immediately after birth. The original conjoinment and separation of the boys becomes the operating theme of the novel and we are given situation after situation in which to consider the concepts of fusion and partition. Bookclub-in-a-Box looks at all that Verghese provides: history (Ethiopia and Eritrea), medicine (blood and liver disease), psychology (the search for identity), sociology (human relationships) and philosophy (of both science and religion). The narrative's real facts and descriptions are especially interesting for their thematic implications. Every Bookclub-in-a-Box printed discussion guide includes complete coverage of the themes and symbols, writing style, and interesting background information on the novel and the author.

The Upside of Down: How Chaos and Uncertainty Breed Opportunity in South Africa

Bruce Whitfield - 2020
You are wasting your time.In a world of fake news, deep-fakes, manipulated feeds of information and divisive social-media agendas, it's easy to believe that our time is the most challenging in human history. It's just not true.It is a time of extraordinary opportunity. But only if you have the right mindset. Fear of the future breeds inaction and leads to strategic paralysis. We put off decisions until we can have certainty. We look for signals. We wait. And while we do that, the world moves on around us.Problem-solvers thrive in chaotic and uncertain times because they act to change their future. Winners recognise that in a world of growing uncertainty, you need to resort to actions on things you can control. And the only things over which you have absolute control are your attitude and your mindset. These, in turn, determine the actions you will take and that will define your future.A robust mindset is the one common characteristic Bruce Whitfield has identified in two decades of interrogating how South Africa's billionaires and start-up mavericks think differently. They are not naive Pollyannas. They don't ignore risk or hope that problems will go away. They constantly measure, manage, consider and weigh up opportunities in a tumultuous sea of uncertainty and find ways around obstacles. If, as Nobel Prize-winning economist Robert Shiller suggests, the stories we tell affect economic outcomes, then we need to tell different stories amidst the noise and haste of a rapidly evolving world.

The Boys in the Boat: Summary and Analysis of The Boys in the Boat

Summary Station - 2014
Regularly priced at $9.99. Read on your PC, Mac, smart phone, tablet or Kindle device During the fourth year of the depression, Franklin Delano Roosevelt was President of the United States and Adolf Hitler was in power over Germany. Conditions in the United States were barely livable for most families including Joe Rantz and his family. Joe was at the University of Washington in Seattle. Joe and his classmate Roger Morris were headed to the shell house on campus to try out for the Rowing team along with 175 other boys. Joe is particularly nervous about the try outs. If he makes the team he has the promise of a part time job on campus and will be able to marry his high-school sweet heart, Joyce. Al Ulbrickson was the rowing team’s head coach. He was always sharply dressed which, along with his assertive demeanor, demanded respect from all of the boys on the team as well as the press. Joe knew how important this year’s freshman team was, if he could train the boys properly he would be able to take them to the 1936 Olympics. Although many other west coast colleges had been to the Olympics before and even brought home medals, no University of Washington coach had ever come close. Royal Brougham was a particularly tenacious member of the press who tried the hardest to pry a statement out of Al. Royal saw the Rowing team as an opportunity to improve his hometown’s image, and set out to be one of the biggest advocates for the team. At the same moment in Germany, Hitler and his staff were walking through a stadium built for previous Olympics in 1916 which were cancelled because of the war. Hitler was not a fan of the Olympics. The idea of different races participating together in the games was appalling to him. However, when he toured the old stadium, he announced that he would have the stadium expanded to fit a hundred thousand people, much to the shock of his staff. Summary: Small Great Things: A Novel by Jodi Picoult

Readtrepreneur Publishing - 2017
Ruth was relieved from her duties as a delivery nurse because of her skin colour by a White Supremacist father. The baby she was supposed to attend to died while Ruth was alone with the baby in the bursary and this led to a court case that would teach us lessons about empathy, forgiveness and love. (Note: This summary is wholly written and published by readtrepreneur.com It is not affiliated with the original author in any way) “Some lessons can’t be taught. They simply have to be learned.” – Jodi Picoult This incident has not only affected Ruth’s life but also the people around her, especially her son, Edison. However, with empathy, forgiveness and love, all things can heal. Racism comes in many forms; active racism, passive racism and even when we are being overly nice to the minority groups. P.S. Small Great Things is an important novel that not only sheds light on discrimination that people of colour face but also teaches us important values in life that we must keep close to our hearts. Tea, Scones, and Malaria

Katlynn Brooke - 2021
Running wild and free on the veldt. Elephants and giraffe for playmates. What more could a child want? As a builder for the then-Rhodesian government, Dad's job was low-paying and demanding. We were sent to areas where there were few trappings of civilization, such as electricity or potable water. My siblings and I ran barefoot in the bush and swam in crocodile and parasite-infected rivers. We were never clean. We loved it.Our camps were spartan and makeshift, and scorpions, spiders, and snakes regularly invaded our space. There were no schools. I was home-schooled by Mom. Then, at age eight, my parents sent me to a religious boarding school; an institution ripped straight out of the pages of Dickens. It was there I discovered not all adults were kind or empathetic people. In the bush, we were forced to create our own amusements--making our smash hit movie on a riverbank, or writing plays that we produced on a squeaky, portable 8-track tape recorder. We spent sultry nights playing poker in our caravan, reading books, and writing stories. My parents were artists and writers; creative, but not the most practical people. They made mistakes, and in 1963 a whopping blunder bankrupted us and forced our family back into the bush. This memoir will take the reader through my life from birth in 1950 to the abrupt end of my childhood in 1969. Tea, Scones, and Malaria is a story about my family's gypsy-like trek through the African bushveld. It is about loneliness, poverty, dysfunction, and tropical diseases. It is also the laugh-out-loud memoir of a child who finds ways to entertain herself and survive in a world that is the literal definition of wild. How I survived it all, I will never know.

Dear Daddy: The child abuse true story that will break your heart (Child Abuse True Stories)

Emily Summers - 2015
They captivate us with their forbidden mystery and promises of excitement. Yet once inside us, they become toxic; compelling us to infect others, who in turn want nothing more than to be bitten. It's a vicious cycle that ensures nothing remains secret forever. The only way to protect yourself from their destructive energies is to simply turn the other way when offered one. To resist the lure of the forbidden fruit. But sometimes, something just happens to you - or you just happen to witness something - that forces one upon you; like an uninvited guest that arrives without warning, and leaves only under great duress. Unfortunately, I have been burdened by such a secret for over twenty years. You see, my childhood was stolen from me in broad daylight, right under my nose, by a cunning thief who dazzled me with his charms, only to run away with my innocence forever. It was the perfect crime, and at the time I was the perfect victim. But thankfully, I was able to pick up the pieces of my life and gradually go on to live quite normally. In fact, I even forgot all about my childhood trauma. Or so I thought. Because it was during a recent chance encounter with my old teenage diary that I realized my demons had never truly left me. They had only been lurking in the shadows all along as I busied myself with other things. I suppose I learned the hard way that a secret kept in darkness only grows in potency.  But there is one way to diffuse a secret. To take away all of its power. And that is to make it public. For no vampire can survive in the cold light of day. So it is at the behest of my wonderfully supportive husband that I have decided to lay bare the ghosts of my childhood in this book, in the hope that in doing so, I'll finally be able to lay them to rest forever. It's been a long, hard journey for me to get to this point. And I thank you, dear reader, for playing your part in my recovery. Emily WARNING: This book is based upon a true story of child abuse, and as such contains passages that some readers may find disturbing.
