Shadow Dancer
Dinah Miller - 2018
John Treehorn is an FBI Agent stationed in Washington DC. When new evidence surfaces of a long since forgotten federal crime, he’s the bureau’s first choice to lead the investigation at the Land of his People, the Navajo Indian Reservation. But, for this Special Agent, his nightmare; a murder, fifteen years earlier, brought this now decorated agent to his knees. A killing that was committed by the same Indian myth called, ‘Shadow Dancer’. A prep school leader is missing, myths don’t commit murder, and the truth is buried on the reservation. Agent Treehorn and local FBI Agent Raven Shelley weave the clues together one strand at a time like an old Navajo rug, from the grave of a corpse intentionally hidden to the unspoken crimes targeted against members of a prestigious law firm. A stranger, who wove the motive, once walked amongst their People and left an indelible mark of a shattered dream that bled into its desert sands. The FBI agent and the killer face off as the laws of two lands collide. One stands with a badge, the other with tradition; but they understand the word of their elders, not all killers are born to kill, some are justified to kill. This book is intended for mature audiences only due to adult content and graphic violence. This book has been professionally edited. Edition 9-11-18. Physical page count: 202 pages.

Separated at Death
J.J. Salkeld - 2013
This DI Andy Hall's third ever murder case and leads are hard to come by, and his personal life is in crisis. Meanwhile, his Sergeant, ex-Marine Ian Mann is faced with a very puzzling case, involving a local bad lad who suddenly seems to be scaling the ladder of criminality. Are the two cases connected? Can Hall and his team crack the murder case, and offer the very coldest of comfort to the bereaved family? Separated at Death is the first in The Lakeland Murders Police procedural novel series, set in and around England's beautiful Lake District, and introduces the team of DI Hall, DS Mann and DC Jane Francis, a former research scientist and the newest member of Kendal CID. Mat Coward's review of Separated at Death appeared in the Morning Star on the 19th of June 2013: "If you like your police procedurals to be thoroughly British - and stuffed cover to cover with them - then I recommend Separated At Death by JJ Salkeld (currently only available as an e-book, £1.53). The beautiful Lake District has plenty of problems the tourists don't see but even so Kendal CID's Andy Hall is rarely called upon to investigate a murder. When the teenage daughter of a leading local businessman is found killed, with no evidence of a sexual motive for her death, DI Hall and his team look closely at her family and friends. With the police suffering from austerity budgets and merger threats, Hall is painfully aware that the resources he spends on this investigation could mean job losses next year. Separated At Death is a solidly plotted, well-peopled and a very enjoyable start to what looks like a most promising series." And readers have enjoyed it too: ' I genuinely couldn't put it down. Roll on number 2.' 'I found the book to be well written with a distinct feeling of being set in the here-and-now and with flashes of wry humour. I'm looking forward to the second of the Lakeland Murders series." 'Found it difficult to put the book down towards the end, and very much look forward to the second installment.'
The Gypsy Hill Murders
P.J. Thurbin - 2012
J. Thurbin, a new writer to the fictional crime scene. He has a unique and fast moving style that will appeal to the reader who likes mysteries that are in the genre of those by John Grisham and M.C. Beaton. His book has all the ingredients that one would expect to find in a classic murder mystery. It is centered on an ivy covered Victorian house set within the campus of a modern University just outside London. A group of five academics find themselves embroiled in a series of vicious attacks that are linked to incidents that took place 100 years earlier. The main character, Ralph Chalmers, a Professor of International Business, attempts to unravel the links between a 100 year old skeleton found on the site and a series of recent attacks in the University, while at the same time courting an old flame from his days as a student at Cambridge University. Inspector Linham and his Sergeant Wilson also strive to apprehend the villains and lend an air of authenticity to the investigations. As the plot thickens, various members of the academic staff are seen to have motives that would also implicate them in the events that unfold. The atmosphere of jealousy and mistrust is stimulated by the character of the head caretaker, Jack Welsh, a retired army Master at Arms who has compelling reasons for wanting to unravel the mystery. The book is fast moving in that the plot moves to Australia, France, Monte Carlo, and the world of diamond trading, while delving into the backgrounds and lives of the main characters. A final twist will leave the reader surprised at how greed and desperation can result in tragedy. Thurbin manages to entertain by depicting the frailties of his main characters in all too familiar ways, while at the same time adding just enough intrigue to keep the reader turning the pages. This novel is for anyone who likes the thrill of a good mystery with plenty of action coupled with the element of surprise. -------------------------------

Sohlberg and the Missing Schoolboy: an Inspector Sohlberg mystery
Jens Amundsen - 2011
New translation with added material by the author. Chief Inspector Harald Sohlberg returns to the Oslo police district where his career started and almost ended in disgrace and scandal. Although he is experienced with hardened and heartless criminals, C.I. Harald Sohlberg has never met as devious and brilliant a criminal mind as when he is called to investigate an unsolved case in Holmenkollen, one of Oslo’s sleepy and boring suburbs. C.I. Sohlberg meets his match amid the beautiful homes and gardens of Oslo’s well-to-do professional class. An elementary school—Grindbakken Skole, Pilot Hill School—becomes Ground Zero for the most shocking and unforgettable of crimes. Confronted with his own difficult and controversial past, Sohlberg must now find a missing 7-year-old boy who vanished while he was inside his school, surrounded by classmates, teachers, and parents at a science fair. The case brings back memories of Norway’s worst serial predator, Lommemannen The Pocket Man, and his predecessor, The Smiley Face Killer. Chief Inspector Sohlberg has spent decades investigating Norway’s most devious criminals as a Police Chief Inspector in Oslo. Sohlberg has also hunted some of world’s most violent and ruthless criminals as an adviser to Interpol. Years of working abroad for Interpol have made him a stranger to his own country and people. Rumors of his wife joining a religious cult in America certainly don’t help. The Harold Sohlberg crime novel series by Jens Amundsen joins Norway’s best crime detective series, including the Inspector Konrad Sejer series by Karin Fossum, the Inspector Gunnarstranda series by K. O. Dahl, and the Detective Harry Hole series by Jo Nesbø. Dark undercurrents of Norwegian and modern society pull this classic of Nordic noir into new and uncharted waters that are as terrifying as they are thrilling. It’s time to enjoy Sohlberg and the Missing Schoolboy, the debut novel of Jens Amundsen. His novels on Chief Inspector Harald Sohlberg masterfully blend the psychological novel into the crime, suspense, thriller, and detective genre. Sohlberg and the Missing Schoolboy introduces the characters and situations that explode in White Death in Tromsø, the sequel to Sohlberg and the Missing Schoolboy. This book includes the first chapter of White Death in Tromsø.
