    The cases presented are somewhat graphic though I have attempted to minimize the technical aspects in the interest of not bogging down the reader with too much information. Since this is a work of nonfiction I have not spent a great deal of time with character development choosing instead to present the patients in much the same way an ER doctor sees them. When the volume and the acuity went up there was barely time to glance at the name on the chart. The patient's chief complaint became the starting and ending point for the physician's interaction with them.
