She floats in permanent orbit near Earth, a dumping ground for the officers and crew the Royal Navy wishes to keep out of the public eye. But when a deadly alien threat appears, the modern starships built by humanity are no match for the powerful alien weapons. Ark Royal and her mismatched crew must go on the offensive, buying time with their lives. And yet, with a drunkard for a Captain, an over-ambitious first officer and a crew composed of reservists and the dregs of the service, do they have even the faintest hope of surviving......and returning to an Earth which may no longer be there?

The Warm Machine
Seth Rain - 2019
What he doesn't know, is which year. Artificial Intelligence can read the deterministic nature of reality and has predicted the deaths of 144,000 Chosen men. When the first dates are shown to be accurate, many begin to question whether these dates have been predicted, or are due to the intervention of an administrative religious organisation called the Watchers. England, like every other country on the planet, must come to terms with what appears to be humanity's desire to bring about its own end. But when Scott Beck is told the date of his predicted death is wrong, he sets off on a journey that explores the true nature of free will, sacrifice, and what it means to be human. It’s not the end of the world ... only humanity. What Readers Are Saying... "A smashingly original concept on the whole dystopian trope." "What a thrilling read, had me gripped from the start." "A fast-paced action-packed thriller of a read set in a dystopian near-future." "This book raises some big questions about where technology is headed and can we maintain control? And are the choices we make made for us? A gripping read from a new dystopian voice." "The mix of science fiction and religion worked well to create a captivating read." "Rain builds a body of evidence on all sides, carefully ramping up the tension as well as fleshing out his characters - you’re never quite sure who has right on their side - until.. well, you’ll have to read the book."
Foothold: The Story of Mankind's First Expedition to the Stars
Dennis Ingram - 2014
Adversity. Hope. A starship with eight people is launched into the unknown for the epic adventure of a lifetime. In the second half of the 21st century, Earth is struggling under the load of an ever-increasing population and a degrading environment. The tide of human politics ebbs and flows. Rising above the turmoil, the will is found to build one lone starship and launch it toward Tau Ceti. Hope for the future, hope for humanity. +++ An interview with the author Is this the original edition? No, it was professionally re-edited and given a new cover in May 2016. How would you describe Foothold? It’s a space colonization adventure. There’s adversity, but no violence. There’s science, but not so much that the characters and adventure are lost in technobabble. So it’s not for those that like hard science fiction? I love hard science fiction! Any book that features interstellar travel needs technological breakthroughs, and Foothold is no exception. The science is deliberately low-tech in some ways though, as our colonists need hardy technology that they can repair themselves. As the series progresses, we will see more and more high-technology appearing. Will the series remain non-violent? No, that will change in book 2. Why? Humans are humans. Wherever they go, conflict is bound to follow. It’s the first book of a series, right? Will there be a cliff-hanger? Yes, Foothold is the first in a series of eight or nine books. It definitely does leave the ending open for the next book, but not in a sudden cliff-hanger that has you reaching for your pitchfork and torch. Oh, and book 2, The Seasoning, is already out! In the book, a starship is launched in 2063. Surely that’s way, way too soon? Not if you believe in exponential progress. If we measure what we will achieve in the next 45 years by what we achieved in the last 45, it’s too soon. But I think it’s more likely the pace of change is accelerating and it’s not so far-fetched to think of subluminal star travel happening sooner rather than later. If it were a movie, how would you rate it? PG-13 for language and some mild sexual content.
The 10th Cycle
J.C. Ryan - 2014
For decades scholars have been saying that the truth about human history will be found inside the Great Pyramid of Giza, but up till now no one has ever been able to find it. Those who tried have been ridiculed and persecuted. Will Daniel Rossler and Dr. Sarah Clarke be allowed to uncover the real and true message? As they come closer to the truth, skepticism out of the academic community is replaced by evil and malicious adversaries, dumping them into a very hostile world where violence, deceit and duplicity become their daily companions. The mysterious Orion Society with its deranged and psychopathic members, the CIA, the Marines, the Mossad and even the President of the United States become involved. Not all of them have good intentions. THE TENTH CYCLE is a full-length novel, a provocative techno thriller about human history, conspiracies and an ancient society with power and money that will stop at nothing to reach their sinister goals. This fast-paced thriller adventure is the first book in J C Ryan’s Rossler Foundation Mystery Series.

Scott McElhaney - 2012
This omnibus contains Indentured, Legacy, Violation, Judgment, and the newest issue, Convergence!Indentured introduces you to the crew of the USS Pioneer – the world’s first superluminal spacecraft. When Legacy is invaded by a fleet of spacecraft, the primitive colony, nine-hundred years in the making, reacts in the only way it knows how. When it comes to the Mystics, this reaction could be quite deadly.Violation finishes up the overall “introduction” to the true Mystic Saga, bringing you the tale of about a dozen USSC assassins sent to a 1940’s Earth. Their sole purpose is to slip in, kill their list of targets, and slip out as quietly as possible. Unfortunately, a disgruntled soldier and a vengeful Mystic raise a significant amount of ruckus along the way.Judgment introduces us to Cyan – an IX7 unit embodied by a triune of souls from the once primitive race living beneath Legacy. Elix has been returned safely to his people on Legacy. Unfortunately for him, his abductors returned him to an era far before his own lifetime. Fortunately, however for his people, Elix offers a plethora of knowledge about the future invaders and their technologies. He offers a fighting chance for his people.Convergence brings all four of the previous books together in 1940’s New York where the world itself may be on the brink of destruction.
