Meditations For Lent

Thomas Aquinas - 1937
In the Summa Theologica Saint Thomas asks the question if three in the afternoon is the suitable time for the faster's meal. Indeed he lived in a time when the laws of fasting were more rigorously observed than today. On the Thursday after Ash Wednesday, Aquinas explains the three reasons why we fast, during Lent. Anyone who wishes to truly follow the spirit of Lent must meditate on these holy lessons! St. Alphonsus writes: "a single bad book will be sufficient to cause the destruction of a monastery." Pope Pius XII wrote in 1947 at the beatification of Blessed Maria Goretti: "There rises to Our lips the cry of the Saviour: 'Woe to the world because of scandals!' (Matthew 18:7). Woe to those who consciously and deliberately spread corruption-in novels, newspapers, magazines, theaters, films, in a world of immodesty!" We at St. Pius X Press are calling for a crusade of good books. We want to restore 1,000 old Catholic books to the market. We ask for your assistance and prayers. This book is a photographic reprint of the original The original has been inspected and many imperfections in the existing copy have been corrected. At Saint Pius X Press our goal is to remain faithful to the original in both photographic reproductions and in textual reproductions that are reprinted. Photographic reproductions are given a page by page inspection, whereas textual reproductions are proofread to correct any errors in reproduction.

Dominican Life

Ferdinand D. Joret - 1937
Dominic and his sons to seek union with the Divine Will through Jesus Christ our Lord. The Children of this family of St. Dominic, forming themselves on the traditions and examples of seven centuries, are bound together within Gods Church by ties that transcend differences of race and language and are more enduring than the bonds of earthly kinship. This book is intended as a guide and manual to teach the spirit of St. Dominic so that the reader might learn more about the Dominican Order and absorb its spirit. Although it was written for lay Dominicans, it will prove instructive and useful to all members of the Dominican Order as well as any laity interested in finding the character and spiritual charism of St. Dominic. This new edition has been completely re-typeset in full agreement with the original. English spelling of words has been maintained from the original.
