It also tells of the deep-sea tug, the Foundation Josephine, which tracked the derelict Leicester over many thousands of miles, found her listing severely, and towed her another thousand miles to Bermuda, where both ships ran into yet another hurricane.Farley Mowat expertly weaves together the different threads of his tale as he tracks the hurricane from its origins to its fateful meeting with the Leicester, describes what it's like to survive a hurricane, and shows the difficult nature of the Josephine's salvage mission. The predecessor of The Perfect Storm, here is a classic of the sea.

The Leaping Hare

George Ewart Evans - 1974
Much of it is drawn from the oral testimony of countrymen (including poachers) still living when the book was written.'Here, from stubble to stewing pot, are all the facts that can be assembled; science, literature, mythology, superstition, semantics, venery, and a rich swathe of countryman's talk . . . This delightful book.' Observer

Mind in the Waters: A Book to Celebrate the Consciousness of Whales & Dolphins

Joana McIntyre Varawa - 1974
She plunges the reader into the Cetacea family with great, great power. Her contributors include leading scientists in whale brain studies, neurology, societal habits; Arctic naturalist Farley Mowatt & dolphinologist John Lilly; poets D.H. Lawrence, Pablo Neruda, Michael McClure etc.; & scholars of whale myths in world literatures. Brain analysis indicates that whales perceive in all their senses at once; i.e., where human motor controls are in varied areas of the brain, the whale's overlap & apparently are cross-stimulated, with results we can only imagine. Whales have very long lives (nobody knows for sure how long) & have been in the oceans for 30 million years. This extraordinary collection goes beyond any studies yet published & will appeal to a reader's imagination, intuition & heart, & should satisfy the scientific mind as well. Royalties from this thickly illustrated book will go to Project Jonah, a campaign for a world moratorium on the commercial killing of whales & dolphins.--Kirkus (edited)

Dinosaurs

Colin Douglas - 1974
Released by Lady Bird Books in 1974 as part of their series of Educational Childrens Books. This fantastic Dinosaurs Book features information and facts on your favorite prehistoric animals that walked the earth long before man. The book is in very good condition over all, which is amazing considering it is now over 45 years old. The front and back covers are nice and bright but does have some wear which is mainly on the edges. The spline is also in very good condition, again with the only wear being on the edges. Internally the book is in very good condition, all 52 pages are present and correct, they are clean and bright without any signs of damage, markings or wear on any page. A truly fantastic example of a vintage Lady Bird Book from yesteryear. All orders received before 4.00pm Monday to Fridays are shipped the same day
