The Intelligent Investor: by Benjamin Graham and Jason Zweig | Key Summary Breakdown & Analysis: The Intelligent Investor: The Definitive Book on Value Investing

Instanalysis - 2015
He was known as the best practical investment thinker who ever lived because of his classic textbook, Security Analysis that transformed the behavior of money managers from medieval to modern and systematic. He was born Benjamin Grossbaum in London on May 9, 1894 but their family moved to New York when he was one year old. His father was a dealer of china figurines and dishes and they lived a good life until Ben’s father died in 1903. Their family’s porcelain business faltered, and eventually they slid into poverty. Luckily, Graham was granted a scholarship at Columbia where he graduated in 1914, even second in his class. He was offered to join the faculty before the end of his final semester but instead of academia, Graham chose to give Wall Street a shot. He got a job at a bond-trading firm, starting off as a clerk, he soon became an analyst and eventually, he became one of the owners in an investment partnership. For individual investors, Graham’s The Intelligent Investor became the first book to ever describe the analytical tools and emotional framework that are both essential to financial success.
