    Robert (Bob) was a 53-year-old roofing contractor when he wrote this story, in 1973, in response to his children's questions about how Santa could get through their chimney. The Associated Press carried the story on its national wires at Christmas time that year. Due to the great response, and many letters, Robert decided to publish it in book form.The book is dedicated to 9-year-old Peter Westby, Robert's neighbor. Peter was facing the amputation of his leg, due to bone cancer, and Robert thought that dedicating this story to him might bring him a bit of cheer.
