    In this variation, the familiar cast of characters is augmented by the introduction of Lizzy’s great-aunt by marriage, Lady Helena Mosse, who hopes to give her great-nieces more opportunities to make good matches than they would find in Meryton. A snowy encounter leads to a new acquaintance, but is it the kind of opportunity Lady Helena hoped for? Because of the chance encounter, Elizabeth meets Mr. Darcy in the winter before the canon visit to Meryton, but their initial interactions are just as rocky. Can Mr. Darcy change his ways and become more approachable? Does he want to? Can Elizabeth forgive his early insults and learn to see him for the man he truly is? Will Kitty find her own way when separated from Lydia? Is Georgiana in danger even when protected by her friends? All these questions and more will be answered in this clean and generally low-angst variation on the story we know and love. One more will be answered as well – what was it really that Lizzy found in the snow?

    His best friend and his sisters are attempting to persuade him the love of his life does not return his affections. His affections, however, are committed. He has found the only lady he will ever love, and he thought he knew she returned his affections, but persuasion is a powerful tool when used improperly. Determined to discover the truth about Miss Jane Bennet’s affections, Bingley finally decides to turn to the only person who truly understands Miss Bennet’s feelings – her sister Miss Elizabeth Bennet. Bingley seeks out Miss Elizabeth only to stumble upon a murder in the process. He is fortunate to save one Bennet daughter but too late to save the other. Who hates the Bennet family enough to want to murder two of the daughters? The only one with the answer is unable to speak and is in a deep state of shock. Bingley, Jane, Darcy, and Georgiana will bring all their abilities to the forefront in an attempt to revive the only witness to the murder and attempted murder, but other factors might hinder their progress.

    This variation looks at what might have happened, had those events gone differently, and, as the title suggests, what the reason behind some of the changes might have been. Could Jane turn down Mr Collins? What if Wickham had proposed to Elizabeth before she knew his character? And could anyone resist Colonel Fitzwilliam, had he been in possession of a good fortune? This story follows the original, more or less, and does not contain any material of an explicit adult nature.
