Body in the Bayou

Morgan Draper - 2015
Unlucky Lizzy, as she's called by those who know of her close relationship with misfortune, is headed to Sinful, Louisiana, to get her life back on track. But a missed bus, a squished sandwich, and screeching tires mark her dramatic entry into the world of Gertie, Ida Belle, and CIA-assassin-in-hiding Fortune “Sandy-Sue Morrow” Redding. When Lizzy reveals the nature of the job she's on her way to take up at a big, lonely, old house, the three Sinful ladies become suspicious, especially as Lizzy hints that she's learned something creepy about her new boss and says that he wants her to keep everything hush-hush. Things only get worse when the group arrives at the house, as Fortune discovers a body in the bayou, at the back of the compound. A string of revelations and further events send off alarm bells for Fortune, prompting the Swamp Team 3 to spring into action. Will they be able to act fast enough to save the life of a newcomer to Sinful who's clueless about the imminent danger that looms? Lizzy narrates this hilarious, breezy adventure which is chock-full of twists and turns that promise to take you by surprise. The events in “Body in the Bayou” take place between books six and seven in Jana Deleon's Miss Fortune Mystery Series Q & A with Morgan Draper Q: How would you describe “Body in the Bayou”? Morgan: It's a cozy murder mystery that takes place in the world created by Jana Deleon, author of the Miss Fortune Mystery Series. It imagines the thrills and spills that follow when Fortune and the Geritol Mafia become acquainted with a stranger nicknamed Unlucky Lizzy, who thinks of herself as a magnet for disaster. It's a quick, fun read. Q: Explain how you came to write a book based on Jana's series. Morgan: Jana dreamed up the delightful town of Sinful, Louisiana, and populated it with a wonderful mix of oddball characters. Jana has generously opened up her world and invited other authors to use her characters and setting as a base to explore their creativity and come up with their own stories. I had a blast with these characters and wish to thank Jana for the opportunity to play in the Sinful sandbox. Q: Why do you think readers should spend time with these characters? Morgan: Despite appearances, these women are sassy, intelligent, and deadly when they need to be. But there's also a tender vulnerability evident as they grapple with their romantic side. And it's easy to get caught up in their growing friendships. They don't back away from trouble, and when they get together, you can be sure that quite a romp will follow. In this novella, Fortune displays the toughness of a trained CIA-assassin that Jana Deleon breathed into her, and she also has a some of the characteristics of an amateur woman sleuth in the Agatha Christie mold. Q: Is “Body in the Bayou” a one-off or will you be returning to Sinful in another novella? Morgan: I love to laugh, and the world could certainly do with more humor. So, yes, there'll absolutely be more adventures with Unlucky Lizzy mixing up her kind of crazy with the gang from Sinful.

DOUBT: The Madeleine McCann Mystery (Gone Girl Book 1)

Nick van der Leek - 2017
We also know the original lead investigator, Goncalo Amaral’s, counter-narrative, now a legally defensible matter of public record. The questions that arise from these opposing narratives are dead simple: Which narrative is more credible? Which narrator is more credible? What was the motive behind all the publicity? Neither Madeleine nor her abductor ultimately benefited from the ongoing media barrage, so who did? True crime maestro, Nick van der Leek, plumbs quagmires of confusion and a thicket of thorny inconsistencies to probe what lies beneath: the psychologies. What is the significance of "doctors" as suspects? Did it matter or mean anything that the McCanns and their cabal of friends in the Algarve were mostly doctors? Peeling away the gossamer threads, over the course of just four days [April 29th – May 2nd], van der Leek intuits that very little was routine: not the weather, not where meals were eaten, not where or when they slept and not what they did as a family. But what were their routines when it came to other, murkier things, like sleeping patterns, cell phones and sedatives? Drawing intangibles out of the darkness, van der Leek sews the vexing loose ends from several conflicting stories into a definite - if not definitive - end-result.

The Murder of Dr Muldoon: A Suspect Priest, A Widow's Fight for Justice

Ken Boyle - 2019
Three local women notice the couple's suspicious behaviour and apprehend them. The two are handed over to the police, charged and sent for trial. A month later, a young doctor is shot dead on the streets of Mohill, Co. Leitrim. The two incidents are connected, but how? In the days following the shooting of Dr Paddy Muldoon, the name of a local priest was linked to the killing and  rumours abounded of a connection to the events in Dublin a month earlier and also that an IRA gang had been recruited to carry out the murder. However, despite an investigation at the time, the murder remained unsolved for almost 100 years. Now, newly discovered archive material from a range of sources, including the Muldoon family, has made it possible to piece together the circumstances surrounding the doctor's death, and reveals how far senior figures in the Church, State and IRA were willing to go to cover up a scandal.

War Stories: From a New York City Cop in the Seventies and Eighties

Jack Fitzgerald - 2018
At least a few, sometimes more than a few of our third platoon would be looking forward to spending an hour or so “unwinding from the stress” with brother officers while enjoying a cold beer.Every precinct had a “cops” bar where we could gather without concern about running into the guy we locked up last week. The bad guys knew that bar was off-limits and they were not welcome. They stayed away. After that first cold beer the conversation would usually begin with, “Let me tell you what happened to me and my partner tonight. You won’t believe it.” The storyteller would embellish his most recent policing experience and a good storyteller would always add just enough drama to keep everyone interested. Of course there was always a follow-up by someone with another story and that’s the way it would go until it was time to leave. Those stories became known as “War Stories,” as in, “Do I have a war story for you guys tonight!”

A Reason for Living - A Story that Shocked the World!

Billy Casper - 2012

This story may be of interest to other survivors of childhood abuse and cruelty and should be of interest to anyone with children or anyone who cares for them. It contains some powerful lessons relating to child protection and should be of an educational value to child care professionals.

SUMMARY 12 Rules For Life: An Antidote To Chaos

James Harvard - 2018
Peterson ATTENTION: You can now buy the paper back version of this book at the current reduced price of $6.99 and get the kindle version at a discounted price of $0.99 instead of $2.99 using our Kindle Matchbook program cheers! Jordan B. Peterson's "12 Rules for Life" is quite the thought-provoking read. The Canadian clinical psychologist puts forth his ideas about personality, being, existence; the interconnectedness of order and chaos, two forces evident in all of life; the gender roles assignment discourse; the source of the world's greatest evils, and many other controversial topics. It is refreshing, and sometimes confusing, how he weaves biblical accounts and characters into the telling of his stories. But what might raise the hairs of most are his views on political correctness regarding postmodernism, white-privilege, cultural appropriation and everything in between. One thing is clear about Peterson. He is a man unapologetic of his views, which are largely unpopular, closely conservative, and politically incorrect. This book contains a comprehensive, well detailed summary and key takeaways of the original book by Jordan B. Peterson. It summarizes the book in detail, to help people effectively understand, articulate and imbibe the original work by Peterson. The Violent Stepfather: A True Story Of Child Abuse

Scott B. Salvatore - 2014
He'd lay on his bedroom floor, locked in his room listening to the horror unfolding below. Waiting until the boots came up the stairs and it would be his turn. He couldn’t even begin to understand what he’d done wrong. Why he wasn’t allowed to see his brother, why he was always brutally punished and his mother was horribly beaten. Bullied at school and brushed away by his teachers, this fragile boy's only companion was teddy; a dusty, battered and torn teddy bear that meant everything to this young boy. A sad story unfolds shedding light on some of the horrific events that occurred behind closed doors and a seemingly normal house. A harrowing childhood nightmare. A broken and traumatic childhood. "Heart-breaking, I felt every blow to that poor boy who went through so much pain, but I smiled at the happy ending even through my tears, an excellent read" - Joan Johns (Author) WARNING: This book is based upon a true story of child abuse, and as such contains passages that some readers may find disturbing.

Healing Neen: One Woman's Path to Salvation from Trauma and Addiction

Tonier Cain - 2014
In just 15 years, she had been arrested 83 times with 66 convictions. Neen had–and lost–four children, she was a crack addict, a prostitute, and desperately lost. But as long as she had breath, she would still have hope. One day, after 19 years hustling on the streets of Annapolis, Neen's crumb of hope turned into a seed of trust. "Then I will make up to you for the years that the swarming locust has eaten…" – Joel 2:25 (NASV) Healing Neen isn't just another story about victims and survivors or recovery and redemption; ultimately, it is a story of Good News and a testament to God's grace and presence. It is the story of a woman's path to salvation and a propitious glimpse into the potential buried deep within some of society's most vulnerable people. "See that you do not despise one of these little ones. For I tell you that in heaven, their angels always see the face of my Father, who is in heaven." – Matthew 18:10 (ESV) But this story isn't just about Neen; it's about the value of human life, the depth of suffering, and the heights of grace. It is a convincing cri de Coeur for better practices in the way we treat and counsel those caught in the cycles of trauma, addiction, and serial incarceration. Neen brings us face-to-face with the ubiquitous corruption, neglect, and abuse in some of the systems meant to safeguard at-risk women and children, yet she leaves us with hope that things can change for the better. Today, Tonier Cain's calling is to help save thousands of other "Neens" across the nation. She is a leading advocate for trauma-informed care in prisons and mental health facilities. She is a champion for examining and improving the way we help one another toward redemption, and she is the voice of compassion and promise for so many still living on the fringe who need to hear, "where there's breath, there's hope."

In The Minds Of Murderers

Paul Roland - 2007
It also explodes the myth of the motiveless crime and challenges the popular belief that all killers are crazy.

Inside the Mind of a Teen Killer

Phil Chalmers - 2009
Why? In Inside the Mind of a Teen Killer, Chalmers, who has been interviewing teen murderers and serial killers for over a decade, recounts Woodham's gripping and horrifying story, plumbing his motives, and peering into the killer's mind. Chalmers also weaves into the narrative his reasearch about teen culture, including comparisons with other teen killers, to analyze the disturbing ascent of teen violence and offer ways that we, as individuals, leaders, and communities, can help defuse this alarming trend. Inside the Mind of a Teen Killer is a culmination of Phil Chalmers' fifteen-year study on teen murder and school violence.? This is an anti-violence project aimed at teens, parents, youth workers, teachers, and law enforcement. The most unique part of the book is the words of the killers themselves, explaining why they committed the crimes, what led them to murder, and how we could have helped them. The goal of this book is to educate America and the world on the growing problem of teen murder and school violence, and hopefully stop teen murder and save innocent lives. Phil interviewed nearly 200 teen killers and school shooters for this book, and it's sure to change the way America and the world thinks about the growing trend of juvenile homicide. Book release date to coincide with the 10-year anniversary of Columbine, April 20, 2009."Phil Chalmers has interviewed the killers. He has corresponded with them extensively. He has exhaustively researched their crimes
