This is the first in a series of true stories about a young helicopter pilot’s tour of duty in Vietnam.

    Then one day I found myself in a foreign country carrying an M-16 rifle and a medical bag fighting a war I knew little about.      After basic training these lads were sent directly into what was then called the battle for Stalingrad. What none of them knew then was that the average life expectancy of a new soldier in Stalingrad was 24-hours.
