Shame the Devil

Reana Malori - 2020
I was too stubborn to listen and now I’m in a situation I can’t escape. I’ve seen too much. I know too much. Even now, two years after my momma left this earth, I can still hear her voice in my ear telling me to leave and never look back. I thought this was the perfect life, but it was all a lie. Now I have someone else I need to take care of, and if it’s the last thing I do, I’m getting us out of this place.Dallas –I’m no hero. Rescuing damsels in distress is not my thing. But when the call came in to save a woman and her child, what else was I supposed to do? My momma raised me to be a gentleman and to protect those weaker than myself. Plus, if I got the chance to give a little payback to some bottom-feeders who hurt innocent people, I’d take that gift every day and twice on Sundays. Little did I know, once I set eyes on the brown-eyed beauty with tears on her face, and a knife in her hand pointed at my heart, my entire world was going to shift on its head.

No Moon Tonight

Don Charlwood - 1956
Accepted as a RAF navigator in 1940, he was posted to 103 Squadron at Elsham Wolds in the winter of 1942. There he crewed up with a pilot from Western Australia and a British crew to fly a Lancaster bomber. In No Moon Tonight he gives a profound insight into the inner lives of the men of Bomber Command and their hopes and fears in the face of mounting losses. He depicts the appalling human cost of the air war in an account which has been favorably compared to other enduring memoirs of the 1st World War, namely Sassoon's Memoirs of an Infantry Officer and Remarque's All Quiet on the Western Front. A memorable first hand account of the air war over Germany.

To the Gate of Hell: A Memoir of a Panzer Crewman

Armin Bottger - 2012
In his very personal account, Bttger relates in a sober and realistic manner the fighting and experiences on and behind the front. He details his involvement in battles across Europe in honest terms. He describes vividly the cruelty and senselessness of war, along with the injustices and irritations of army life. The author was by no means a hero: he admits that he volunteered for the Wehrmacht to avoid sitting his school leaving exams (but obtain his Abitur leaving certificate). He also concedes that he lied about his health in an attempt to avoid being sent to the Eastern Front and was determined to stay alive at all cost. The book features almost 200 photographs taken by the author during the war and includes images taken in action.
