The Powershaper Omnibus: Books 1-3

Robert Don Hughes - 2016
Including: The Prophet of Lamath For centuries, a two-headed dragon has laid dormant at Dragonsgate. Its two heads, Vicia and Heinox, fought perennially for control of its gargantuan body. But now, it has taken to the air. Vicia-Heinox has burned villages at random all across the Three Lands, venting rage and confusion. It was all the fault of Pelmen the player, the powershaper – now the Prophet of the Power. But Pelmen is helpless, locked in the King’s dungeon, waiting to be executed on the drawing blocks. Should he escape, the prophecy of the Priestess has foretold an even more terrifying fate at the mouths of the vicious dragon… The Wizard in Waiting A new power is stirring… The Imperial House of Chaomonous was awake again. For a thousand years, while the two-headed dragon barred magic from the Golden Kingdom, the castle had slept. But now the dragon is dead, and the castle has awoken… The throne has been usurped by Queen Ligne, while the rightful heir, Princess Bronwynn, has been locked in the dungeons. And now — to make matters worse — brutal slaver Admon Faye has invaded its lower depths. The realm of Lamath is in great tumult. But where is the powershaper, the wizard of ancient magic who could understand its warnings? The Power and the Prophet The beast is beginning its descent… Pelmen the Powershaper is over his head in trouble. Trouble is nothing new to him, but this time it may prove too much. Ngandib-Mar, seat of the Power Pelmen obeyed, is on the brink of a bitter internal war, and Chaomonous again threatens to invade. It seems that some dark Nemesis is dogging Pelmen’s footsteps, and there is nothing he can do about it… Except to stand and fight.     Then she hears that her father has been seriously injured in an accident. Driven by the need to make amends, she resolves to unravel the truth – but the deeper she digs, the more her own life becomes embroiled in the dangerous forces she is unleashing. Things start to spiral out of control until her very survival is under threat. Can she even trust the ones she loves? DS Harry Briscombe is facing a personal dilemma that threatens his career. Already investigating a local murder, Dominic Cartwright’s accident raises the possibility that the two cases could be linked. Between the two of them, Harry and Kirsty get caught up in a trail that is increasingly perilous. It’s becoming a race against time … and time is running out. – If you love Clare Mackintosh and Rachel Abbott, you'll love this book Questions to the Author How did the plot idea come to you? – In drabs and drabs – it was very irritating! I started off with just an idea in my head of a character meeting up with her estranged father because of some secret he was going to tell her, but I didn't know what that secret was. I wrote that whole scene and a couple of others before I ditched it. The current theme (no spoilers) was as a result of a real case that I heard on the radio and I just thought how easily every day people can get caught up in that sort of thing, tempted by the money. The various sub-plots along the way are themes that interest me – and I think everyone has views on them one way or another. The title The Jagged Line is more about the fine line we draw between truth and the stretching of it; between morality and immorality … and how easy it is to cross those lines. So ... Harry’s got a new side-kick in Beth. Will you continue their stories on? Definitely! Beth has a very interesting back-story to develop, which was hinted at in The Jagged Line. It will come into its own in my new novel (yet to be named!). We already know that she comes from a tough background but even she will be surprised at what comes out! And now for the Big question … when will your 4th novel be published? – That really is the big question! I’ve literally only just started it, so it’s a question of how quickly I can get it done. At the moment I’m struggling with the finer details of the plot, which is slowing things up a bit, but I’m sure I’ll get it sorted and I’m hoping that it will be out in the next 6-9 months. Madam President: "This is not a drill."

O.L. Gregory - 2014
The only reason she agreed to take it was because the position hinged on her father winning a presidential election. She figured she could agree to take the job, he'd lose the election, and she'd be off the hook. James Cartwright won the election. He was a widower, and had no interest in living in the White House residence by himself. Not only did he lobby to have his daughter appointed as Vice President, on the grounds of bringing her in to help reform education, he also talked her into giving up the Vice Presidential home to live in the White House with him. Things were going along well. They're now six years into their jobs, making strides in their agendas, when life as they know it comes to a screeching halt. Molly is in the middle of making a speech when Secret Service agents surround her and carry her off the stage. Within the next few hours, she is given devastating news, sworn in as the next President, charged with trying to discover who the traitor is, needs to figure out which nation is responsible for this mess, and is put into the precarious position of fending off a war, all while trying to mourn a parent. Molly's challenges do not stop there. She's contending with two sets of senior staff; her own and her father's. Certain people doubt her ability to maintain focus when her personal life has just been through the spin cycle. A staff member disappears when the Secret Service is spread too thin. Everyone thinks there may be pertinent information on the President's phone, and Molly has a plan on trying to hack into it, if they could just get the thing to her. Her personal aide is afraid and refuses to even step foot into the residence for fear of Lincoln's ghost. The man who targeted her father reveals himself enough to torture Molly with images, threats, and a FedEx shipment. A little digging around reveals a surprising relationship, and a long-harbored dream Daddy was keeping secret. And, in her bid to get to the truth of all that is afoot, the rookie President turns suspicion onto herself, hoping to draw the enemy forward.
