Black Sky

William H. Lovejoy - 1990
Lieutenant Commander Dallas Grant reports the explosion of a Poseidon missile just minutes after its successful deep sea launch. But then he uncovers a strange aerial attack by another suborbital craft of unknown origin equipped with military technology thought to be available only to the United States and the Soviet Union. A silent and unidentified mystery is flying and is a threat that needs to be formally detected. The most recent in a series of unexplained near-space disasters, the attacks are costing international state powers billions and eroding the reputation of all global satellite operation and research. Classified data is valuable and as leaks appear emergency intelligence analysis profiles a plot by Nesei Aerospace Industries. The Japanese munitions and communications giant could be attempting to control all black sky programs, a prospect which would undoubtedly create global chaos and economic collapse, and soon. An atmosphere of anxiety and paranoia sets in awaiting authorisation from the President as cameras rouse suspicious, films are unaccounted for and an official record of unleaked classified data is called for. Police are to be avoided, until a body warrants calling in the FBI. Urgent Orders are sent to Grant and his colleague Dmitri to combine their 21st century black sky warrior strike squads in an apparently unofficial war that has already been initiated. Aware of the dangers both men consider the women they leave at home and whether they will ever return from this mission, or if they will be captured as prisoners. Grant and his colleague Colonel Dmitri Vidorov are sent to fight the ultimate high-tech war to free the newest, most dangerous frontier of all… Praise for William H Lovejoy ‘Delta Green is an exciting aerial thriller. Office Wars: The Mailroom Clerk

James G. Patton - 2017
He sleeps in a real bed and eats real food and only jumps into Neuroma to work. All he wanted was to log in, work and log out and live in general obscurity. Getting the attention of a CEO, meeting a stranger in real life, and forced to play in a secret game of corporations were not penciled into his calendar. While that was bad, he started to question whether Odditek was still in control, or had their complacency created the noose tightening around their neck. Bran was not yet aware of the choice before him. He could no longer stand back and watch, and he had to pick a side and fight before he lost the ability to choose. Would he recognize the inevitable in time? Was it possible to make a ‘correct’ choice, or had the lines blurred so much that hero and villain were indistinguishable? This novel is part of an Odditek series and is a LitRPG novel. I realize it’s the first Odditek series, but more are coming. This series started as a companion series to a book called Lantern Online. I wanted a way to build up the world as it now exists, and to explain what Odditek is. Neuroma and Nerves are mentioned in Lantern Online, and I felt all that information was taking away from my story and is mostly not relevant, but good to know information. I took a lot of it out and added it to this series. Anyway, out of that came Office Wars. I hope it's different than most LitRPG you will read, and brings another dimension to the genre. Explicit language! I will not lie, there is a satirical nature to this story, and a lot of the language and scenarios are morally questionable on purpose. In this story and I use a lot of curse words and controversial commentary. Just look on Facebook or any half a dozen social media sites, and you will see similar language, conversations, and other nonsense. If we all moved into a digital world, this is how I view that world.

2076

Stephen G. Mitchell - 2014
The seas have risen, the skies have darkened and the American Midwest has become a desert. A handful of corporations own and operate the country and food is used as a means of oppression. The year is 2074. America is now a third-world nation and China, with its prosperous and burgeoning middle class, is the leader of the Free World. Against this backdrop, a devastating raid by the wealthy ruling class on a stronghold of rebels fighting against the system inadvertently unites two enemies in a forbidden love that threatens to tear their worlds apart. Carlin Pheney, a decorated military pilot and member of the upper class, is captured by Aelena Hall, a veteran leader of the food wars. Together, they become fugitives on the run from a military industrial complex headed by Carlin’s father. Aided by strangers and betrayed by friends, they are swept up in an unstoppable global catastrophe. When Aelena is captured and thrown into the Federal Torture Chamber on Guantanamo Island, Carlin devises a desperate plan for her impossible escape from the water-bound prison. Mystery and suspense pursue the two lovers across the oceans and around the world to a wild and newborn land. Here, if they hope to survive, they must face a terrible battle to colonize a new America and give birth to a nation. In the tradition of literature with science fiction and political overtones that includes Nineteen Eighty-Four, Brave New World and Fahrenheit 451 comes one of the best new books of the year, the dystopian thriller 2076: A Revolutionary Tale—a book about a tomorrow ruled by the plutocrats of today.
