When he discovers that his attentions toward Elizabeth have given rise to a general expectation of their mutual attachment, he determines it best to create distance between himself and the captivating young lady he met in Lambton. But the arrival of an old adversary causes greater anxiety and distress, and Mr. Darcy must learn whom he can trust and what is truly important.
