Evergreen

Matthew S. Cox - 2018
At 5:59 a.m. early in September, life as she knew it came to an end with a nuclear flash ninety miles away in Colorado Springs. For two months, her family sheltered in the basement of their home, surviving on whatever canned goods Dad could scavenge. Passing evacuees told of a safe haven in the mountains, but her father refused to leave. He thought their home was safe… until a gang of looters kicked in the door. Four years ago at thirteen, Harper won trophies for competition shooting, but killing a man pointing a gun at her is nothing like nailing targets at a range. Hesitation cost her parents’ lives. With no other options, she grabbed her little sister and ran away from the only home she’d ever known into a world she no longer recognized. The promise of safety in Evergreen gives her hope, but unless the girl voted sweetest in her class can find the nerve to kill, Harper—and her kid sister—are as good as dead.

The explosion is heard for hundreds of miles, the light of the comet seen halfway across the globe. Had the comet hit a few hours earlier in a more populated area, millions would have been killed... A century later, another comet - this one hundreds of times bigger and more powerful - encounters a black hole in deep space and is pushed onto a new, deadly course leading straight to Earth... A small group of humans - including the President of the United States, a former astronaut and a middle school science teacher - discovers the existence of this potentially deadly comet and keep its existence hidden from the rest of the world. Although the group - which calls itself the Inner Circle - has twelve years to deal with the problem, they will need every second of that time. Emily St. John Mandel's Station Eleven | Summary & Analysis

Book*Sense - 2015
John Mandel | Summary & Analysis This is a Summary & Analysis of Station Eleven. Although the field of apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic fiction is crowded, Emily St. John Mandel’s Station Eleven is a noteworthy addition to it. Focusing away from the usually treated deeds of the high and mighty, it presents a narrative that can be taken as representative of scenes around the planet in which the everyday people of the world deal with the aftermath of world-girdling disease and death and try to eke out some semblance of sanity and civilized life. The novel relates the story of the end of modern civilization by the hyper-pandemic Georgia Flu and the first decades following its elimination of more than ninety-nine percent of the planet’s human population. This companion to Station Eleven also includes the following: • Book Review • Story Setting Analysis of Station Eleven • Story elements you may have missed as we decipher the novel • Details of Characters & Key Character Analysis • Summary of the text, with some analytical comments interspersed • Discussion & Analysis of Themes, Symbols… • And Much More! Dead Dayz

Shaun Whittington - 2017
It is four weeks into the apocalypse, and with his wife and daughter still missing, David is doing his best to keep it together and look after his seven-year-old son Harry. But as the days go by, this task is proving to be getting more difficult. With many obstacles getting in David’s way to protect his son, like avoiding thugs and trying to keep hydrated and fed, he has decisions to make in order for he and his son to survive long term. *********************** A message from the author Please read before downloading In October 2014, I decided to write a little book inbetween the Snatchers series (a little tradition of mine) and began writing a story about a father and son that were trying to survive in the Zombie apocalypse. I called it Dead Dayz In December 2014, I decided to ditch the first draft and concentrate on a new Snatchers book, Snatchers 5: The Dead Don’t Yield. I didn’t like the finished Dead Dayz, but some individuals who had read the book liked the father and son story, so I decided to incorporate it into the fifth Snatchers book. The story was about David Johnson and his son, Harry, (Paul and Kyle Dickson), and I saved the best bits from the Dead Dayz book and put it into the Snatchers book. The following you are about to read is the original Dead Dayz book. If you have read the Snatchers series, then this book still has many parts/chapters that you haven’t read before, but the story will certainly be familiar. And if you haven’t read the Snatchers series before, then everything I have talked about doesn’t matter. Dead Dayz was initially a standalone novel, before it was dissected for the Snatchers 5 book that was eventually released in February 2015, and it seemed a shame to leave it sitting on my hard drive in its original form.

From Within

John M. Dow - 2011
The tension in the air suddenly snapped, released, and with a series of staccato bangs, every door down the length of the street swung open. From out of the houses and shops they came, shuffling, staggering, and swaying. Fly-by-wire humans, jerking along the street like meat marionettes, with mouths agape and eyes empty. In their suits and their dresses, overalls, smocks and pyjamas, the locals of Wakely marched to their own rhythm of decay to greet the visitors to their town."Three strangers find themselves drawn to Wakely, a small village in the Scottish Borders, where a centuries-old conflict between two warring Celtic deities is drawing to its gruesome conclusion. A small boy holds the key to their survival, but first they have to find him. And they're not the only ones looking."One of the many things John Dow does very well indeed is tension and release. The tension will ratchet up and up with fear and horror laid upon trepidation and anxiety, and then he’ll write something that will make you smile. Fear and a little humour make for a terrific combination." The View From My Kindle (4.5/5)
