IN WINTER'S GRIP: A 1940s' Mystery Thriller

Gordon John Thomson - 2014
The action of this period romantic mystery takes place in the city of Newcastle-upon-Tyne two years after the end of the war, as Britain is caught in the grip of the worst winter in a thousand years. As blizzards rage and the country grinds to a frozen standstill, on Tyneside a young German woman, Elsa Platten, goes on trial for her life, accused of deliberately burning a man to death... Alexander Galbraith is the lawyer hired to defend her, a man undergoing a personal crisis of his own, since his vengeful wife, Virginia, has discovered evidence of a homosexual affair and is threatening to ruin him... Jack Raisbeck is the owner of the Tyneside shipyard where the murdered man, a Dutchman called Jeroen van Rijn, worked. Jack is a physically scarred and cynical survivor of the war in the North Atlantic but his developing romantic relationship with Elsa in the months before the murder has rejuvenated him. Yet, as Elsa begins her trial, Jack is also struggling to keep his shipyard business alive, beset with a rebellious workforce led by union leader Ernie Wilmot, and with the financial future of his yard hanging in the balance after a recent arson attack and an act of embezzlement by his former chief accountant, George Hetherington. As the evidence against Elsa unfolds in the course of the trial, she re-lives her past life in Germany and Holland: the rise of the Nazis and the invasion of Holland, her subsequent betrayal and deportation to the East, and her escape and struggle to survive the fall of Berlin. Jack and Alexander Galbraith both believe in Elsa’s innocence but that belief is strongly tested as the evidence against her grows. The trail to find the truth leads both men in unexpected directions. For Jack it leads to a confrontation with his brother-in-law on a frozen cliff top, and to other disturbing family revelations. For Galbraith it is something even worse - he has to make the ultimate choice between preserving his own career and reputation, or saving his client from the hangman...

FINALLY: THE GOLF SWING'S SIMPLE SECRET - A revolutionary method proved for the weekend golfer to significantly improve distance and accuracy from day one (1)

J.F. Tamayo - 2010
     b) The average weekend golfer would love to improve but doesn´t have the time or the interest to spend long hours practicing. After studying the golf swing for over 25 years, JF Tamayo has developed a revolutionary method proved for the weekend golfer of any level to significantly improve distance and accuracy from day one, based on three main principles: 1) FOCUS ON CHANGES THAT MOST POSITIVELY AFFECT RESULTS: Opposite to the traditional methods, this book will only ask you to make changes in the most relevant parts of the swing needed to hit solid and consistent shots: the backswing and the transition between the backswing and the downswing. 2) LEARN HOW TO DEVELOP AN EASY, REPEATABLE AND SOLID BACKSWING: One of the biggest breakthroughs of the method was the development of a unique and much easier way to consistently make a solidly sound backswing that will look similar to the new Tiger Wood´s one plane backswing but much simpler to learn, to do and to repeat. 3) LEARN HOW TO CREATE LAG: Being able to increase lag during the downswing is one of the major differences between the amateur's golf swing versus a professional's and probably one of the most misunderstood concepts of golf. In this book you will easily learn how to lag the club like the pros, dramatically improving your clubhead speed, ball striking ability and distance. Authors: J. F. TAMAYO - 143 Photographs by J. Blood Trail (Fannin County, Texas)

G.H. Lambert - 2014
Dylan Ryan arrives in Texas just as the Runaway Scrape is in full swing and the Battle at San Jacinto nears. He misses going to war when he comes to the aid of Mort Lems, severely wounded by outlaws who seek information on the location of an old trail used by the Spaniards to transport gold bullion from Texas to New Orleans. It is said gold bars are still buried along that trail. Dylan and Mort escape to the prairie of North Texas and the safety of the Red River Wilderness. But instead of having the land to themselves, they discover peaceful settlements springing up around trading posts all along the river. Peace is fleeting, as Indians grow angry at the homesteaders breaking the soil with their plows on land that was promised to them for hunting grounds. The newly organized Republic of Texas is unable to provide the settlements protection, so it is the trading post owners who hire gunmen to act as ranger forces to repel the hostiles. A new war has begun, this time with an unpredictable enemy. Dylan, Mort and the settlers watch their dreams for a new beginning end as clouds of dark smoke rise into the clear blue sky as homesteads burn. Indians begin to raid every community, burning, stealing horses and taking women and children as slaves. Overnight the promise of a better life in Texas has been replaced with one of a living hell. Blood Trail is the first in a series.

The Texicans

Jinx Schwartz - 2005
Decades before Crockett, Bowie or Houston even set foot in Texas, Frederick Stockman was already there. Author Elizabeth Schwartz, a ninth-generation Texan, has delved deep into her ancestral roots to create this moving story of the Frederick Stockman familys' courageous determination to make Texas their home during the turbulent period between 1806 and 1836. The Texicans was inspired by a Texas history book calling her ancestral clan a "congenial society for evil"--rogues "skilled in many forms of villainy" for their role in the tumultuous years of first Spanish, the Mexican rule. Frederick Stockman and his family immigrate to Spanish Texas in 1806 to ranch, but soon find themselves inexorably drawn into the bitter conflict between Mexico and Spain. They join forces with a dashing young Spanish deserter, Miguel Gonzales, in his successful campaign to liberate Mexico and Texas from Spanish rule. Their ties are further cemented when Gonzales marries into the family. As Heroes of Mexico, the Texicans--staunch supporters of Mexican rule for Texas--find themselves vilified by North American settlers illegally flocking across the unprotected border. These newcomers, calling themselves Texians, view Mexico, Mexicans and Texicans as the enemy. Targets of bigotry, the Texicans themselves are torn along cultural lines as their hero-turned-despot, General Santa Anna, propels them towards a deadly showdown.

The Amazing Adventures of Dave the Depressed Alcoholic Superhero. Book 1: Dave Decides to Become a Superhero

E.D. Wallace - 2016
I mean like special powers. I can do stuff like fly, throw fat people really far or knock a giraffe out. To clarify, I haven’t done the last two (just saying I could if I wanted). Also to be clear, I’m not mentally ill. Well, not officially anyway. You’re probably thinking my life must be awesome, full of crazy adventures, fame, fortune and glamour. You’d be wrong. I have a desk job and live at home with my wife and parents. That’s my entire loathsome life. The only thing that gets me through the day is knowing that I can have a drink or two. Sometimes three. Okay four. Fine, five. Ten. It’s usually at least ten, but that’s a guess because by that point I have no idea what I’ve been doing, am doing, or going to do. Some might say I have a problem, but I would disagree and politely ask them to take a long walk off a short pier.Recently though, I’ve been getting seriously agitated with the world. There’s so much wrong and no-one’s doing anything about it. I’m not just talking about crime, I’m talking about the bigger picture. You know, stuff like war, poverty, corruption and all that high level stuff. I’m thinking I could do something to help. I don’t know what exactly, but I’ve got some mad skills that could be useful. I don’t know what the consequences will be if I do this, but I’ll just assume the worst...I’ll assume that I’m gonna brush shoulders with the dregs of society; murderers, rapists, traffickers, politicians and CEOs. I’ll assume that I’m gonna upset a lot of nasty people, powerful people, people who will come after me. I’ll assume I’m gonna get hurt, badly, maybe even die (if that’s even possible). I’ll assume my wife is going to get really annoyed at me.On second thought maybe this is a bad idea. Maybe I should just stick to the day job and play happy families.Screw that, I’m doing this! The Last Man Standing: An Action Packed Western

John Buzzad - 2018
Now why don’t you let them be, and I’ll buy you a glass of milk.” “You should really mind your own business, mister,” Red hissed. “Now I call that pretty bold talk for a man not carrying a gun.” Tom’s finger tips drummed against the side of his holster. “Who says I ain’t?” Red’s eyes were wide as saucers and his lower jaw jutted out. “What’s your name, friend?” Tom loudly asked the man in the noose. While trying to maintain his balance on tiptoes, Ed answered, “Ed Tew.”
