Glenna Sinclair - 2017
Enjoy the complete volume two of the Stone Security series. Romance, Suspense, Mystery and a touch of Comedy. 5 Books. No Cliffhangers. More than 1,000 pages :) JACK Jack goes to a small town in Arizona where a local militant group has taken over, harassing honest business owners in an attempt to run them out of town. Jack is pulled into a war between the right and the righteous, caught up in a world that is as foreign to him as a distant county. Among it all, he meets Ruth, an angel who makes him rethink the direction of his life. At the end, he’s faced with a choice: the stubborn woman who dominated his past, or the pious woman who could fulfill his dreams of the future. CRISPIN I lost my wife five years ago. I left my job three months ago. My life has never been in such a state of flux. I’d always known what to do and how to do it. But now, it seemed like fate or the universe or whatever was determined to push me down a road I couldn’t control. And her name was Alli. A wildcat like no one I’d ever known before, she was almost more than I could handle. Therefore, when I learned we’d be stuck in a car together for three days, I was not exactly thrilled. She had this way of plowing through life, knocking people out of her way whenever they got too close. But she found her match when she came up against me. I wasn’t going anywhere, even if it meant risking everything, including my heart. PATRICK No one knew who he was and that was a source of pride to him for a long time. But those secrets were growing heavy, almost too heavy to carry on his own. Patrick Shaughnessy loved his work at Stone Security, but he was wondering if it wasn’t time to move on, to find a way to unburden himself from his past. But then this woman bursts into his life, a victim of a vicious attack that is too reminiscent of a time of darkness in his past that he’s been running from for more than a decade. He offers this woman sanctuary, doing for her what he might have wanted for his sister or for the woman he loved. But when he catches her in a lie, can he continue to protect her and face the possibility of his carefully hidden past unraveling around them, or will he run? QUENTIN They foreclosed on his family’s ranch while he was away fighting a war on terror. He brought the fight home with him, turning the life of the man who served the papers, the man who broke promises and stole from his family, upside down. He promised he’d take everything away from this bank manager and he was very close to fulfilling that promise. But then she walked into his life and turned it upside down. Can Quentin Forrester save his family from the shame and poverty that losing their livelihood dropped on them with a distraction as complete as Malaika Gray? Can he be cynical and still feel hope? Can he save them both from a shared enemy? MATTHEW Matthew Pearce was a member of the Guardians, the militant religious group responsible for the death of Harry Cravits. He hadn’t been able to save Harry, but he did what he could to help Jack Stone put his killer in jail. But that guilt never went away, wouldn’t until he could stop the Guardians from the darkness they were spewing on his hometown. He has to go back, has to take up arms with the Guardians again in order to take them down from the inside. But why does she have to pick this moment to come home? Whit Ellington is the girl of Matthew’s dream, but she is also a reporter threatening to spill everyone’s secrets. Can he protect her and take down the Guardians?

ARMY INVESTIGATIONS: A 5-Books ARMY Romance Series

Lola Silverman - 2017
5 books and NO cliffies! Boiling Point Every time the Army Corps of Engineers goes into a town to do a project, they send someone like me in to assess the possible reaction of the locals. From the first minute I tried to talk to these people it was like hitting my head against a wall! Then there’s resort owner Chase Kingston of course. The guy looks like an underwear model wandering around in the wilderness. He hunts snakes and works part time as a fishing guide and he’s completely the wrong kind of man for someone like me. But if he can help me get the people in this town to cooperate, I’m willing to spend a little extra time with him. It’s not like that would be a hardship. Absolute Zero One of the things I like best about the military is the complete lack of gray area. Things are black and white. I like absolutes and I like order. So when I get stuck on this job in Wilson Hollow I figure I’ll use my brand of law and order to make this project a fast success. Of course that was before I met Reese Coburn. The woman seems to take great pleasure in irritating the crap out of me and questioning my every decision. Center of Gravity I’m not entirely sure that anyone has luck as bad as Kelsey Kingston’s. The woman has been trapped on her brother’s resort for years while she waits for him to buy her out. She’s had a tough time finding a job because there aren’t that many businesses in a small town, and now she’s been fired from her job and accused of murder.I know Kelsey didn’t kill that man and I aim to prove it. Pendulum The army has been accused of murder and so they’ve brought in their own investigator. Lieutenant Buck Colson is the most arrogant man I’ve ever met! Unfortunately he’s also the best looking, which is totally distracting when I’m working so hard not to notice him. He’s on my turf, he’s poking around, and he’s starting to reveal some things that have been wrong in Wilson Hollow for a long, long time. Melting Point Alison Thomason was the one who got away. That much has always been true for me. I never really understood what happened when we were kids, but then we were from very different families. Now I’m back in Wilson Hollow on army business and Alison is doing everything she can to poke at me. I wonder if she realizes that we’re on the same team.

Voices of Freedom: A Documentary History

Eric Foner - 2013
The documents in this collection show that although in some ways universal, the idea of freedom has never been a fixed, timeless concept with a single, unchanging definition. In fact, the history of the United States is in part a story of debates and struggles over freedom. Crises like the American Revolution, the Civil War, and the Cold War have permanently transformed the meaning of freedom. So too have demands by various groups of Americans for greater freedom. The primary-source selections in this book include presidential proclamations and letters by runaway slaves, famous court cases and obscure manifestos, prevailing ideas and dissenting ones. The voices range from Las Casas and Pontiac through Jefferson, Thoreau, Douglass, and Lincoln to Stanton, Sanger, Garvey, Luce, Byrd, and Obama. The Fourth Edition of Voices of Freedom includes new documents that better reflect the religious aspects of American history. It remains a comprehensive collection that offers a diverse gathering of authors and a wide breadth of opinion. Fully compiled and edited by Eric Foner, the collection includes headnotes and critical questions for each document. The book is organized as a companion to the textbook Give Me Liberty! An American History, Fourth Edition, by Eric Foner, and it can also be used with other texts in the American history survey and other courses.

Shock: The Healing Power of Electroconvulsive Therapy

Kitty Dukakis - 2006
For more than twenty years, Kitty Dukakis battled severe depression with every medication and treatment available. But it wasn't until she tried electroconvulsive therapy- ECT-that she began getting her life back for good. Written with award-winning medical reporter Larry Tye, "Shock" is both the personal story of how ECT dramatically changed Kitty Dukakis's life as well as a captivating look at the science behind ECT, the controversy surrounding it, and the history of its intriguing rebirth in this country. "Shock" explores the stigma afflicting ECT-still a treatment that many hospitals do not administer-and debunks long-held misconceptions about how it is performed. Though some continue to view ECT as a dangerous, even barbaric, procedure, as this book explains there is no scientific evidence to suggest that ECT damages the brain. It can cause side effects like memory loss, but they generally are not far-reaching or long-lasting, especially when newer, lower-impact techniques are employed. In fact, the U.S. surgeon general and the National Institutes of Health agree that for severe depression ECT is safe, and often more effective than antidepressants or psychotherapy. An eye-opening and powerful book about one of the most contentious medical treatments in history, Shock demystifies ECT and brings to life-through Kitty Dukakis's moving account -its impressive capacity to heal. For the millions who suffer from depression, bipolar disorder, and other mental illnesses, it offers real information, practical guidance, and hope.
