The Extinction Pandemic (The Hatchery Compound #1)

Grayson Hawkins - 2015
Bryce Sloan was the epitome of the patriotic American. He joined the Army with the vision of action on far away continents. Instead, he was thrust into the job of a Soldier serving stateside and the only action he saw was at military bases across the United States. After his time with the Army was up, he settled down with his family in Arizona, where he intended to live out an average lifestyle, but before he could settle in, the "Outbreak" began. The “Outbreak”, a mysterious illness, quickly began to spread across the country. Before the “Outbreak” could reach critical mass, Bryce had the foresight to prepare his family for the mass exodus to come. He found the perfect sanctuary for his family; a fish hatchery. As the “Outbreak” unfolded, Bryce ran into multiple groups of like-minded people that all sought out a place to call home, and for those who could contribute to the cause, they found sanctuary in the Hatchery Compound.

Breckinridge Valley: Surviving the Black--Book 1 of a Post-Apocalyptical series

Zack Finley - 2019
After Jeremy Breckinridge’s wife dies, he’ll do anything he can to care for his two girls. He resigns from the Army and settles into a quiet Tennessee county to raise his family and help run the family businesses. However, the Breckinridge’s have a well-concealed secret. They are survivalists focused on protecting their family and allies from any large-scale disruption. When the SHTF, they learn no plan survives contact with reality. While they have prepared more extensively than their neighbors, even they find themselves stretched to provide for Breckinridge Valley’s growing population. Jeremy is shocked by how quickly societal norms break down outside the relative oasis of Breckinridge Valley. When a local militia and then a depraved deputy threaten to take over the area, Breckinridge Valley must act to preserve its future. This electrifying novel of persistence demonstrates the expanding versatility of new author Zack Finley. This dystopian novel features well-researched survival tips and ideas against the backdrop of rural America. The Surviving the Black series presents one version of a possible future, should American society continue its increasing dependence on a poorly managed electrical grid and food supplies coming from half a continent away. Mature themes, not suitable for persons under 18.

Goose Truman: The Horsemen

Don A. Carey - 2021

The Belt: Complete Trilogy

Gerald M. Kilby - 2018
The ship contains an experimental quantum device, lost while en route to a research colony on Europa. On Earth, powerful corporate forces are moving to resume unrestricted, inter-AI communications, their objective being to gain complete dominion over the colonized solar system. But the outer worlds are mobilizing to prevent them from achieving their objective, a fight back which is being led by Solomon, a sentient quantum intelligence (QI), also on Europa. However, once word of the crew’s discovery gets out, they soon realize that ownership of this technology could fundamentally change the balance of power within the solar system, and they now find themselves at the very nexus of a system-wide conflict. Their fight for survival plays out across the solar system, from the mining outposts of the asteroid belt to the moons of Jupiter and Saturn, and from the great Martian city of Jezero to the irradiated wastelands on Earth. This is an epic tale of humanity’s struggle for survival and meaning in a time when artificial intelligence has finally out-paced our own ability to control it. About The Belt: The story is set a century or so into the future where humanity has colonized most of the inner solar system. The asteroid belt (The Belt) is now a hive of mining activity and ships ply the trade routes to Earth and Mars. The technology depicted, for the most part, is what I consider to be technically plausible, although I do stretch it a little with quantum entanglement. That said, you won’t need a calculator or a slide-rule to enjoy the story.

Sol Survivors

Ken Benton - 2019
That’s all the notice America gets of a fast-approaching solar storm so unprecedented in scale it sets the geomagnetic scientists in a panic. Many citizens don’t have the resources, or even the concern, to take preparatory measures for the overhyped-sounding warnings that life as they know it is about to be over. Joel McConnell, a self-made Washington DC businessman and survival hobbyist, is not one of those. But bugging out with his culture-loving girlfriend before the solar flare hits proves to be a too much of a challenge on such short notice. With the power grid suddenly destroyed, most modern electronics fried, and cities quickly descending into utter turmoil, they find the 500-mile journey to Joel’s well-stocked rural retreat a maze littered with opportunistic criminals and increasing hostility. That isn’t all. It soon becomes evident the sun storm did more than plunge the western world into darkness and civil unrest. It left something equally sinister behind. Something that feeds the human compulsion for disunity to such extremes it makes the recent political divisiveness in America look like harmonic brotherhood by comparison. With the effects worsening daily, Joel learns the highway is but one treacherous adversary he must defeat. Others can sprout where you least expect them.

Humanaty's Blight: Post-apocalyptic

LeRoy Clary - 2019
The main character is an introverted recluse who teams up with a fourteen-year-old girl. Together, they fight to survive as they get to know each other. He is computer-smart and used to ordering his needs online. She is street-smart. Where one is strong, the other is weak in world that has degenerated into hungry mobs of desperate people. This book is purposefully different from the norm of the genera in that it centers more on the people while the story advances.
